Elder Common Language in Helaeron | World Anvil

Elder Common

The very first Common Tongue ever to be spoken by different peoples in all the world. Proposed by the Dragons in an effort to Unite the Elder Races in a world left to them by the Oraedar and recovering from The Last Schism of the Elves.
The language is referred to by Elvish and Dwarvish scholars as Coetaveosar. A word in Elder Common itself meaning "Common Voice."
It was devised by linguists from nearly every Elder Race. Which made the language recognizable to speakers of Laeth Ceann, Durahbas, and Sehnvoaxi.
The Giants did not participate in the creation of the language. Caring little for interaction with all but their own kind. And Orcs were not present in the Known World when the language was created, and arrived long after its creation.
In ages to come. The Language was widespread and utilized by merchants and tradesmen. But after the fall of the Sun Elves and Night Elves civilizations. And the decline of the Dragons population. The language fell into disuse. Surviving into the current era as a relic of the Elder Races.
