Eiwas Item in Helaeron | World Anvil

Eiwas (Aye-ou-wu-as)

Eiyouwasz "Law" in Old Artean, the Legendary Sword of Animar The Honored when he led the Last of the Good Hearted Humans out of Old Artea. Simplified as Eiwas in The Common Tongue. The blade had been the sword of the Emperors and Empresses of The Ellician Empire from it's zenith age to its last days.

The sword had passed from hand to hand in the ages following the Old Empires collapse. Until it disappeared entirely from the world in 4th Aeon, 992 A.E. when the blade was wielded by the Sword Lord of The Island and Free City of Craeda during The Craedan Royale. Where in, the Sword Lord of the day had been slain in battle on the docks of the Free City. The Sword was lost in the chaos and is believed to have fallen to the bottom of Gauntlet Bay.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Formed by Will using The Mages Gift. The blade is of a unique design and quality. Containing many alloys. Iron, Titanium, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Aluminum, Copper, and Magnesium. All blended and folded together by magic to form a singular and well balanced piece capable of retaining a cutting edge for far longer than traditional weapons. Though not as long as Ellician Red Steel.

The sword is also Conductive of The Energy of Mana. Rendering it capable of being a Conduit Tool for a Mage. Much like the Spellblade Sword of the Arbiter. The Mage Warriors of The University of Arcaena who patrol the Heartland Realms enforcing The Treaty of Magai.

History

In Old Artea, when the Great Chieftains first began to make war on each other and any that did not side with them. Animar The Honored made the difficult choice of abandoning his role as Law-Giver among his tribe to become their war leader, he made the journey to Harr Fiyoroun where all the minerals and metals had their richest deposits. By the power of The Mages Gift, he compelled metal, mineral, and Mana to crash and compound into a singular mass. And then by will, the mass took on the shape of a sword. Naming it Eiyouwasz, law, in rememberance for the profession he left behind and the ideals he hoped to carry with him into the future. Animar would wield the arcane blade in leadership of his people alongside the great many from other tribes that did not want to partake of war. Or be a victim of it.

From Old Artea in the west, now lost beneath the waves of The Calling Sea, to the shores of what would later be known as The Lands of Dekmire. As a Chief, a King, and finally an Emperor. Animar wielded the sword with valor, dignity, and compassion for his people. Ever preferring to let it rest in the scabbard rather than wield it in times of war. And after Animars death after two thousand years as Emperor, the blade would be a crowning honor to all his successors.

But when Boelthar Zinn the Usurper stormed The Tower of Ellicia, the blade would be taken from Roellan Arteas III, and used to slay him. Roellans daughter, Kynara Arteas, would wage a bloody and unforgiving war of rebellion against the Usurper. Who had used the Necromantic Magics of Heretica and forbidden formulas of Alchemy to prolong his life. Leaving the fate of The Ellician Empire and the Human Race in the hands of Tymara Arteas, the Last of The Arteas Bloodline. Tymara would wrest the blade from the usurpers hand, but would suffer a fatal wound in slaying the profane pretender.

Tymara would seat The Lawbringer Throne at long last, but it would be the among the last of her deeds on this earth. Dying and tired, she handed Eiwas to her best friend and most loyal general, Cynthea of Esterval. Holding the blade in tears and awe, Tymara took The Crown of the Covenant that she would never live to wear. And in the tradition of her forebears, she said to Cynthea "By the spirit of Artea of Old. By the blood of our mothers and fathers. And by the burden that you now must bear. I name you, Cynthea of Esterval, Aesar. Empress of Animars Empire. May your heart be true as you wear this crown. For how else could you have been worthy of it?" Words Tymara herself would've heard if she had lived beyond that hellish day. But her first and last act as Empress. Was to leave her empire, its recovery, and its redemption, in the hands of someone who would rule as the Arteas Emperors and Empress should. With a just mind, and a kind heart.

Eiwas became one of the crown jewels that transfer authority and power from ruler to ruler. And had been thus even in the last days of the collapsing empire some three thousand years after the last of Animars lineage gave her last breath.

The sword then vanished from history amid the chaos and confusion that was The Seven-Hundred Year Darkness that followed the final collapse of the Ellician Empire. Until the blade would surface again in the possession of Gascoyne of Mengorn during the frenzied war known today as The Askerborean Interregnum. Gascoyne never explained nor wrote of how the blade came to be in his possession. But the Askan Renegade would carry it all the way into armed exile after The Decimation of Mengorn. Where he and his mercenary company, The Bears of Mengorn Mercenary Company, would go on to found the The Free City of Craeda, which today stands as the very epicenter of the Mercenary market.

Eiwas would then be the crowning item of the Sword Lords that rule Craeda as opposed to a mantle or crown. But the blades last appearance would come during The Craedan Royale, a brief civil war that erupted after long tensions between various mercenary companies finally reached the breaking point. The Sword Lord at the time, Rycas Parin, would lead his trusted corps of bodyguards in cutting a bloody swath through angry and coin hungry mercenaries in order to reach the docks of Gauntlet Bay. Where Parin had hoped to make an escape and return when the disjointed fighting had finally stopped. But a gang of rivals had boarded the ship that the Sword Lord had hoped to reach before he could, and after a long drawn out exchange of blows. The ship mysteriously exploded, leading some investigative scholarship to presume that Red Powder had been present in Craeda at the time of the Royale. As it was not just the one ship, but nine ships that surrounded the Sword Lords own vessel that had also been destroyed.

Eiwas was never recovered. Even after hiring Annar Fishermen to dive into Gauntlet Bay to attempt to retrieve it. Though talk in taverns and back alley holes speaks of an ancient sword arriving in the private collection of a nameless enthusiast of unique artifacts. The truth, however, remains obscure to every ear and eye that seeks the ancient sword.

Significance

A Prized Relic of Human History. The Sword of the First King in Human History. And one of the last Artean Swords that will ever be. The blade itself has a long and storied history. Having been wielded by many an Emperor or Empress, Warlord or Usurper. One could argue that who so ever should find the Sword of Animar the Honored, holds the fate of the Human Race. Though this is only argued by Romanticising Scholars and Pretentious Poets.

It's prolific legacy not withstanding, the Sword is a prize for any explorer, adventurer, or scholar. A rare and valuable artifact from the beginnings of Human History. And a crowning possession for anyone who would seek to take up the mantle that the Old Empire left lying in the dirt when it fell.
