Versatile-Military-Formation (VMF): Skiritai

The Skiritai is a VMF used mainly by the Winged-Empire-of-Zmienna in their military. The formation is used in battle against neighboring attackers.

Composition

Manpower

Depending on the Skiritai, the size can range from 1 million to 2 billion soldiers.

Equipment

Most soldiers in a Skiritai wear whatever their specific culture approves of. Yea'haa'weh wear leather and wood armor in their Skiritai, and Drekkin wear metal plates woven together with iron threads.

Weaponry

Depending on the race, weapons can range from throwing-spears to flamethrowers to gun to blazer-beams.

Vehicles

Generals might have a horse, the battalion have (in addition to 60 S.W.A.Ves) 40 fast-moving scout-vehicles, each one sometimes mounted with a fire-turret.

Structure

The formation is divided into three Flanks ("Phylai"): the Pamphyloi, Hylleis and Dymanes. A further subdivision is the "Phratra" which includes 27 men, nine per Flank. Multiple Flanks are organized into five territorial divisions that make up one "Obai", composed of one "Lochos" (1000) men each. There are seven Obai, each subdivided into four "Pentekostyes" of 128 Generals, which are further subdivided into four "Enōmyotiai" of 32 Horsemen, giving a total of at least 7000-10000 men for one "Xenophon". Multiple Xenophons make an "Enōmotia", with 36 Xenophons in three files of twelve under an "Enōmotarches". Two Enōmotia form a Phalanx of 72 Xenophons under a "Pentēkontēr", and two Pentēkontēr are grouped into a "Pentēkostyai" of 144 Xenophons under a "Lochagos". Four Lochagos form a "Moraia" of 576 Xenophons under a "Polemarchos" and six Polemarchos compose a "Skiritai", the largest unit of the army. The one who leads the Skiritai is the one who controls the entire army.

Tactics

Tactics range from piercing the enemy-lines and striking at the center, or going around the battlefield in an attempt to surround and trap the enemy before killing them.

Training

Typical training from the ages of 10-15 is required. Education on battle-stratagems and formations is also necessary.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Guidance from the leader of the Skiritai is needed. The leader will sometimes communicate with his men through a loudspeaker mounted onto his vehicle, or in some cases will simply scream orders at his men from a distance.

Auxilia

Some outer-divisions include Medics (needed to patch-up wounded soldiers) and Blitzers (air-strikers, typically flying in Copters or other flying vehicles available).

Recruitment

Recruits must be at least 10 years of age to join a Skiritai. They must be men, weighing no more than 30 pounds and strong enough to carry a sack of potatoes around a field for at least an hour. They must also have some experience with weapons, whether firearms or blades.

History

Major battles between the Old Folk and Surakh have been recorded to use Skiritai.
