Hexapod-Magic/Insect-Magic

Insect-Magic (IM) is a class of ancient magic used to extract and use magic from hexapods (insects). It is a natural form of magic, and is used by some races today as a cheaper from of NM.

Effect

Effects of IM vary, depending on the type of IM.

Side/Secondary Effects

The only side-effects of IM are the death of the insects from which the IM is extracted.

Manifestation

The spells of IM manifest as odd buzzing noises and smells of sulfur in the air. Colorful auras of lime-green and crimson red also appear.

Each particular form of IM comes from a specific group/type of insects:  
  • Dagger-flies, dance-flies, Robber-flies and horse-flies: Alchemy and Technomagic.   Fruit-flies and picture-wing flies, house-flies, blowflies, tachinids and Caddisflies: Heat-magic, Cold-magic and Mysticism.   Micromoths: Abjuration.   Macromoths and butterflies: Illusions.   Diplora, protura and springtails: Elemental magic.   Bristle-tails and silverfish: Antimatter.   Mayflies: Hypnosis.   Dragonflies and damselflies: Fire/Flame magic and Metal/Earth magic.   Earwigs and stoneflies: Invocation and Divination.   Crickets, katydids and grasshoppers: Curses, charms, Intelligence and wisdom.   Icecrawlers and gladiator-bugs, webspinners and stick-insects: Demonic magic, Enchantments and hexes and Battle-magic.   Zoraptera, cockroaches and termites: Defensive-magic.   Mantids: Invisibility.   Booklice and parasitic lice: Wind-magic.   Aphids, whitefly and scaled-insects: Strength.   Cicadas, leafhoppers, froghoppers and planthoppers: Telekinesis and Agility.   Moss-bugs: Plant magic.   Water-bugs: Water magic.   Gnat bugs, litterbugs and semi-aquatic bugs: Astral Projection.   Shore-bugs: Levitation.   Assassin-bugs, plant-bugs, bed-bugs: Manipulation/Mind-Control.   Flat-bugs, stinkbugs, seedbugs: Relocation/Removing spells.   Sawflies: Teleportation.   Parasitic wasps, stinging wasps, ants and bees: Banishment/Destruction and Astral Travel.   Snakeflies: Sorcery.   Alderflies and fishflies: Dark-Arts/Dark Magic.   Stresiptera and lacewings, reticulated beetles, skiff beetles, water beetles, ground beetles: Resurrection and Flight/Gravity magic.   Click-beetles, water-scavenger beetles, scarabs, carpet beetles, darkling beetles, weevils and leaf-beetles: Sand/Mud magic.   Scorpionflies: Energy-magic.   Fleas: Blood-Magic.   Mosquitoes, midges, March-flies and fugus-midges: Astral Combat and Wild-Magic.
  These groups are fit into 31 distinct families. These 31 families are known as the "Power-Hexes", and a person who has studies all the 31 families and can extract magic from them is considered a powerful magician. In truth, no family is considered higher than the other in terms of the quality of IM. It all depends on the person using the IM, since the 31 families are all equal to each other.

Occasionally, a person may stumble upon a new form of IM that does not exist within the canon 3 families. Should this happen, the person has the opportunity to "patent" this form of IM as their own unique form. However, patented IM is not added to the canon 31 Power-Hexes and is not considered canon in any sense. Examples of patented IM include magic with Placeholder-Bugs (this form of magic being Memory Manipulation as well as Super Strength) and the IM of insect larvae (being Reanimation).

Material Components
The only things required for IM are required insects and small doses of Moona.
Gestures & Ritual
To use IM, the caster must draw the image of one of the 31 families of insects and place that required insect on the image. After briefly chanting some mantras, the caster must then make a weaving motion with his/her fingers. This will draw out the energy from the insect, and produce IM.

10 minutes to 2 hours.
Effect Casting Time
2-5 minutes.

The caster must have a Magic Level of Green with a Flank Silver.
Applied Restriction
There are no restrictions for IM, as it is a very weak force of magic and poses no serious threat to people.
