The Hunter's Guild of Sijmen Sur

The Hunter's Guild of Sijmen Sur is an organization based out of the Long Sung Peninsula, just East of Jalvud on Sijmen Sur. It offers services such as mentoring young dwarven hunters, taking on beast slaying contracts, and hosts the quinquennial Great Hunt.

Founding

Legend has it that the guild follows its origins back to the Dwarven migrations into Sijmen Sur after the Dwarven-Draconic War. For letting them share their home, the refugee Dwarves offered help the native Gnomes rid their homeland of the Archaeo, a four legged mammal resembling a mix of a boar and a large feline that hunted Gnomes in packs. Groups of Dwarves would form hunting parties and hunted the Archaeos, eventually to extinction, but in their hunts they found what would later be described as The Hunt, a spiritual experience where hunter and prey become one in the cosmos. Once the Archaeos were taken care of, many of these Dwarves wished to continue The Hunt, and so banded together to hunt down the mightiest and most dangerous creatures so as to gain a newfound connection to Nature and the world as a whole.

The Great Hunt

Occurring every five years, the Great Hunt is event held by the Hunter's Guild, where Dwarves can test their skills against one another. Hunters gather in the Guild Hall, a massive wooden building with it's walls covered in trophies from hunts past. After signing in the hunters are all given a target, usually a mighty beast, and set loose to hunt. They must figure out where the beast is located in the world, what it eats, how to kill it, etc. To win the Great Hunt, one must only bring back proof to Sijmen Sur of their kill, and for the rest of their life they are martyred as one of the greatest hunters on top of a nice sum of money. The main rules hunters must abide by is no harming other hunters, and no cheating of any sort. Another bonus as mentioned before is the monetary gain of winning the Great Hunt. This is due to sponsors, usually wealthy Wythian nobles who wish to sponsor a specific hunter, enabling them to by better gear or acquire better resources in their travels around the world. Like gambling, if the sponsor's hunter wins, they too gain wealth from a pool of money each sponsor pays into. Sponsors are updated monthly of where their hunter is in the world, and what they are doing, adding an entertainment aspect of the Great Hunt for those who can not compete in it.
