Warlock Robes of the Boneheart

Warlock Robes of the Boneheart

Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a warlock of Iuz)

Description: Woven from tattered black velvet and streaked with faintly glowing crimson runes, these robes are stitched from the sacrificial vestments of fallen Boneheart wizards and clerics who abandoned their mortal lives to become vessels of Iuz's will. The robes reek of dark pacts and the oppressive authority of their fell master.

Properties:

  • Mark of the Tyrant: While wearing these robes, your location is always known to Iuz, no matter the plane you are on (unless you are under the effects of mind blank or similar magic). This is not optional.
  • Summoned by Iuz (1/day): As a reaction when you are reduced to half your hit points or fewer, Iuz (or a designated Boneheart superior) may teleport you instantly to a location of their choosing within 1 minute. This can place you either into a boon (e.g., a hidden sanctuary for healing) or a bane (e.g., punishment, a new mission, or a deathly arena) depending on your recent service.
  • Whispers of the Dark Lord: Once per long rest, you may cast sending (no components required) to contact Iuz or a Boneheart lieutenant. The reply is always truthful but may be cryptic or cruel.
  • Fell Mantle: While wearing these robes, you have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks against humanoids who are of Good or Neutral alignment.

Curse (hidden until attuned):

  • Chains of Patronage: You cannot willingly remove or doff the Warlock Robes of the Boneheart once attuned without a remove curse or similar powerful magic. If you attempt to betray Iuz or act against his direct interests, you suffer psychic damage equal to your warlock level × 5 and have disadvantage on saving throws against fear effects until your next long rest.

Lore Notes: Boneheart and Bone Shadow agents wearing these robes were considered the chosen ones among Iuz's lesser servants — marked clearly by their magic but completely disposable in their master's eyes. Disobedience often led to brutal teleportations directly into the clutches of Iuz's personal torturers.

Greater Robes of the Boneheart

Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by a warlock or spellcaster devoted to Iuz)

Description: These robes are stitched from the flayed skins of traitors, overlaid with thin chains of black adamantine. Jagged infernal script glows blood-red across the hems, and an unnatural chill clings to the wearer. Those in the presence of the robes hear faint, mocking laughter from nowhere.

Properties:

  • Iuz’s Brand: Your location, surface thoughts, and basic physical condition (healthy, wounded, dying, dead) are constantly known to Iuz. This effect cannot be blocked by magic short of wish or divine intervention. Attempts to conceal yourself will alert him instead.
  • Commanded Summons (1/day): As an action, Iuz (or his Boneheart lieutenants) can forcefully teleport you to a location of their choosing, regardless of your consent. You have no saving throw. Upon arrival, you must immediately succeed on a DC 18 Charisma saving throw or suffer one of the following:
  • Take 6d10 psychic damage from the agony of planar dislocation.
  • Gain one level of exhaustion.
  • Be dominated (as dominate monster, no concentration required) for 1 hour (Iuz’s will only).
  • Voice of the Fiend: You can cast sending to contact Iuz or his lieutenants at will (no components). Each time you use this feature, roll a d20. On a 1–3, Iuz demands immediate service (DM's choice) within 24 hours or he revokes a spell slot (random) until you obey.
  • Mantle of Tyranny: While wearing these robes:
  • You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.
  • Creatures that can see you have disadvantage on saving throws against your fear-inducing spells or features (e.g., fear, cause fear, eyebite, etc.).
  • Bone Shadow Cloak: (Passive) The robes allow you to teleport up to 30 feet as a bonus action once per round. You leave behind a misty shadow form for 1 round that lightly obscures your original space (as minor illusion).

Curse (not removable without divine intervention):

  • Chains of Eternal Service: If you defy a direct command from Iuz or deliberately work against his plans, the robes transform you into a Bone Shadow Revenant (a unique wraith-like entity), forever bound to serve as an undead enforcer of Iuz’s will. Only a wish spell cast by a non-evil being can undo this transformation.

Lore Notes: The original Greater Robes were worn only by the innermost Boneheart captains — elite servants who served as Iuz’s assassins, inquisitors, and generals. Most who donned them lived no more than a few decades before being consumed either by madness or direct punishment from the Old Wicked One himself.
