Naj Tewb or Off-worlder:
Throughout the world, there are hundreds if not thousands of caves. During a full moon, off-worlders wake-up in caverns, confused and questioning their surroundings. Some believe it is a dream, a nightmare, a parallel world or a different dimension. They remain on the Hauv Pem for anywhere from one hour to several years with the longest lasting over a generation.
It is not easy to recognize one after they leave the cave as they look like anyone else of the same race. However, there are four ways to spot a naj tewb. First: they don’t know the customs and the cultural Idiocies, or the language. As a side note, all naj tewb's understand each other, even if they are from different places and would not understand each other normally. Second: native women tend to become pregnant. This only occurs when a foreigner is around while experiencing high emotions. Third: They can live a long time without ageing. Fourth: When they die or killed, their body vanishes leaving only their their clothes and jewelry behind. There are myths of the same off-worlder returning.
Naj tewb bring knowledge and ideas with them. Some of the inventions brought from other worlds don’t work on Hauv Pem. However, Some have brought better ways of extracting minerals, rotation farming, built equipment to speed up harvesting, and better planting methods to name a few.
However, their main purpose is to keep the population growing and infuse new blood into the world.
Reproduction:
The planet of Kom Txaus, which includes Hauv Pem, requires a Naj Tewb to reproduce. The races are unable to produce any offspring without the assistance of an off-worlder. High emotions, like adoration, love, fear, and hate, from a naj tewb, is necessary for native women to successfully get pregnant.
When off-worlder experience high emotions, pheromones affecting any natives within an area allow for conception for a short time. The stronger and longer the emotion, the larger the affected area and the longer affect will last. Couples passing through the area have a chance of producing a child and the longer they stay in the area, the better their chances. The second way is to actually produce a child with a naj tewb. The first generation will be able to have children without being around an off-worlder, but their pheromones cannot affect anyone around them. Even if they have a child with a naj tewb, it is still only their immediate child who can produce an heir without being in the vicinity of naj tewb. Bering a child of naj tewb is a great honor raising her status. mages will not bed a naj tewb, because it could permanently destroy their connections with the magic field. Also the naj tewb women are seldom used as a surrogate because they could vanish at anytime.
It is believed love and fear will produce normal children, with a tendency toward good or evil. Adoration will produce a child with angel-like qualities, and hate produces creatures of the darker nature. According to legend, a naj tewb female fell in love with the noble Jartell. They were together for years, and had many children, one night she caught him in bed with one of the chambermaids. She was furious, she cursed him and their child, before storming out of the manor house. The chambermaid gave birth to the first Ork, but before Jartell could kill it, mother and child disappeared into the woods.
Many towns have arenas surrounded by inns and rentable rooms. The hope is an off-worlder will be willing to fight, producing their pheromones. Most battles are not to the death, just until someone admits defeat. There have been a number of them that love the adrenaline rush and they stay a long time. The good naj tewb are treated like nobility, with private rooms and women often pay for a night with them.
Any magic directed at them either has no effect, or they vanish. Anyone caught causing one to vanish will face severe penalties, including death in the arena.
Local brothels are set behind special walls to block all pheromones from reaching the people inside. Off-worlder is forbidden to go anywhere near the area, and if one does manage to get inside, he is put in the arena for life, without any visitations.
