Spittern Hound Species in Hastened Delight | World Anvil

Spittern Hound

The Spittern Hound was a breed of wolf that was primarily known as a work animal.
Originally bred to turn meat over fires, the endurance and strength of the wolf became a valuable source of mechanical energy in countryside households.
Upon the rise of more freely available sources of energy, breeding seized and the species became extinct.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Spittern Hounds were known to be fairly small in comparison with other wolves.
Often called 'little Shire-ponies' they were characterised by short and sturdy legs and dark fur with a white stripe down the centre.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As omnivores, Spittern Hounds are often fed scraps from cooking or left-overs, which usually suit their dietary needs.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Spittern hounds were almost exclusively used for powering machinery via treadmill, but were replaced by better power sources and automation.
Since they were otherwise quite unpopular, breeding came to a halt and the species died out.
