Empiric Calendar

At least we don't have leap dates!
— Duffy McGuire, senior astronomer

The Empiric Calendar is one of the most complex calendars known to man, and is constructed in a very symbolic fashion.
In short, there are 4 days and 2 holders to a week, 4 weeks and two holders to a blessed month, 4 blessed months and 2 holders to a blessed season, 4 weeks to a cursed month, 2 cursed months to a cursed season and 3 blessed seasons and 1 cursed season to a year, achieving a total of 366 days per year.
That makes for a total of 1 cursed and 3 blessed seasons, or 2 cursed months, 12 blessed months and 6 holders, or 56 weeks and 30 holders, or 224 days and 142 holders, per year.
The months are only ever 1, 24 or 26 days in a month, for 'holders' of seasons, cursed or blessed months respectively.

Irregularities

There are two peculiarities to this calendar, namely the 'holders' and the 'blessed' or 'cursed' months and seasons.

Holders

Two 'holders' each a day a long, one at the start and end of each week, blessed month and blessed season, each 'hold' 4 of the next smaller unit, thus 'protecting' or 'blessing' it. This is seen in the following patterns:
  • 4 days per week plus two 'holders' results in 6 days per week.
  • 4 weeks (24 days) per month plus two 'holders' results in 26 days per blessed month.
  • 4 months (104 days) per season plus two 'holders' results in 106 days per blessed season.
The second 'holder', also known as 'catcher', is comparable to a weekend, leading to 71 'weekend days', ranging from a single to three days in length. Holders surrounding seasons count as their own 'months', leading to 20 'months' per year.

Cursed Units

Cursed units are missing the 'holders', preventing them from being 'protected'.
There are 2 cursed months (each 24 days) per year, each making up half a cursed season.

Graphical Representation

A typical calendar may look like the following diagram, each bracket representing a 'holder', every column being a day of the representing monthly row.
