Hukoreise (HOO-ko-rees)

the Painted Elf, Tar-Breather, the East Wind

"Every parent's greatest fear in Harrow is that their child will be born with purple skin and ears pointed like knives." --Niv Mavon, gnomish midwife.

Hukoreise often plays the role of trickster in myths and is the only chthonic god that is immediately identifiable at birth. No matter who the mother is, when Hukoreise is born, it is with purple skin, pointed ears, and swirling marks reminiscent of ink dropped in water. Hukoreise, like Zagreus, has more interactions with mortals than the other gods. Unlike his brother however, he doesn’t involve himself in conflicts with beasts or wars but rather takes interest in individual mortals, sometimes tutoring them in arts.

Divine Domains

Hukoreise is the god of memories, visual art, string instruments, gravity, travel, silence, and the incarnation of death.

Artifacts

There are 217 pieces that are confirmed to be painted by Hukoreise that have been made in the past 1000 years or so. Many of these are in private collections and none are considered "magical" but they're still considered sacred by followers of Hukoreise. What few temples and shrines there are to him often have one of these pieces on display and the largest chapel of Hukoreise (located in Od Pholix) doubles as an art museum in which the largest public collection of the god's work is on display, 44 pieces.
Then there are the the Sintorian flutes. During the New Age, roughly between 988 and 1069, a luthier from Ashweald was commissioned by three different incarnations of Hukoreise to make a flute. This was unusual for Hukoreise who has never been recorded as meeting the same luthier twice but this man, Sintorio, had the honor thrice. This made him incredibly famous to flautists, Painted Elf devotees, and nobles. He was commissioned for a recorded 307 other instruments throughout his unusually long life.
Sintorio was a resident of Ringkilde (modern day Stalwart) and is presumed to have died in the Moonfall. Of his original works, 103 are known to be in private collections, 15 are in museums, and the remaining 192 remain unaccounted for.

Tenets of Faith

Unlike his fellow gods, Hukoreise does not actually court a following. There are individuals who act as his agents or consider themselves devoted to him but there is no broader clergy. As such, there's not really any consistency to a worshiper's morals, excepting them usually being art lovers.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

The trickster god's motives and goals are always extremely unclear. For instance, the final archon war began when Hukoreise was killed by Finia. Incensed by this, Soge went to her siblings to whip them into a fervor. The archons had long been an insult to Chthonic divinity, to her mind. The death of one of their own was enough to move the others to action. Soge brought all the gnomes of the Mârton Cays across the Brack Sea to the Tiers, the survivors of this war would become the Mavon Paladins. Zagreus' call to his followers was answered by 150 pairs of devoted lovers who's bonding had been overseen in a temple of the Child God. They followed him fearlessly into battle and went undefeated in the campaign, a feat not even the Mavon can claim.
After the last archon fell, Hukoreise revealed himself, having been reborn not long after his death and concealed this reincarnation. As his siblings slew each archon, Hukoreise plucked these powerful souls from the either as they made their way past him. As incarnation of death, he interacts with all passing souls and so he horded them and harnessed their power. Once the war was over he channeled the power of these souls into a hex that he bestowed upon the land of the Tiers. Despite the whole purpose of this crusade ostensibly being to avenge Hukoreise, he still betrayed them in the end by forcing all gods, Chthonic and otherwise, to stay out of the Tiers and their business. With the archons dead and the gods banished from the land, the Tiers rejoined the Great Rhythm.

Social

Family Ties

He is close with Zagreus who avenged his death at the hands of the Pretender Archon. His sister Soge, who also fought to avenge him, is not friendly to him however. In the Mârton Cays, Soge's domain, it's law that any child born bearing the marks of Hukoreise is to be drowned.

On Alignment

Though my tables will never observe strict alignment adherence, there are those who find knowing what alignments are common among a god's followers can be useful for roleplaying a faithful. Any neutrally aligned character would be ideal for a worshiper of Hukoreise.
