Oni

Appearance

Oni are what the other races consider ugly and fiendish in appearance. They have wiry black hair and yellow tusks. Their eyes are pale yellow, green, or orange. They primarily have red skin, but sometimes have blue or yellow skin as well. Oni are taller than the other races on average but far from giants. They bulky, muscular beings and clothe themselves in simple animal skins.

Traits and Attributes

Oni have four aura gates and small pools of aura at their disposal. They primarily use their aura to enhance their physical abilities and senses. Some have weak connections to the otherworldly but can’t do much to manipulate the powers of the other realms. They have the typical five sets of eye cones: three sets for visible light, one for infrared, one ultraviolet light. They are sensitive to sounds between 28 Hz to 77 kHz. Their sense of smell is their most developed sense, which rivals that of the dvergar. The oni’s lifespan averages about a century and a half. They reach physical maturity at the end of their second decade and their aura matures in the middle of their third decade.

Culture

The oni live on the strip of land that borders Svar-loka’s Gate that no other race wants. The soil is too harsh and stripped of needed nutrients for much to grow there, much less cultured crops. Oni are looked down on by the other races as being weak and ugly. They refuse to bend the knee and submit to a race that hates breathing the same air of them, so they have no choice but to stay in that land outside of anyone else’s control.

The oni keep to a relatively nomadic lifestyle scavenging what edible plants they can and hunting game. They live in small family based clans, as the harsh environment of their territory doesn’t have the resources for mass civilization. While the oni may be weak, they aren’t stupid. They have adapted to the land given to them in surprisingly clever ways and have a highly structured culture. If the other races took the effort needed to look past their prejudices and spent some time with the oni, they would see they are more than beasts that gained the ability to speak.
