Nuckelavee
The Nuckelavee are the only otherworldly beings that make their permanent home out of the physical realm, much to the misfortune of the races that live in Hárronfall. Many believe the nuckelavee to be fallen heavenly beings that were cast out of the spiritual planes because of their violence. Some speculate that the nuckelavee were sent to this plane to guard what lays past Patala-Loka’s Gate, as no one has survived the journey deep into the area of the nuckelavee’s domain.
The nuckelavee rarely journey up north closer to Warnek Channel and instead stay close to the far reaches of Hárronfall’s southern border. Still, few dare to venture too far south into the waters of Patala-loka’s Gate out of fear.
The nuckelavee have complete control over storms and the flow of the ocean waters. They seem to be impervious to death, and even the most powerful attacks don’t lay a scratch on them. No one has seen a nuckelvee’s full form, only glimpses of pieces that breach out of the water’s surface. They have a distinctive shrill scream, and a definite overwhelming presence about them. Many have heard their scream as it carries far over the waters. Anyone that hears it steals their boat back the way they came hoping their lives will be spared.
Nuckelavee From Celtic Lore
The Nuckelavee is known to be the most terrible and dangerous of all beings in Celtic Lore. On land, it takes the appearance of a terrible horse-like creature. Steaming out from its back is the top half of a humanoid with a head too large to keep up straight and arms long enough that the knuckles drag. None of its body has any skin and black blood flows through its yellow veins. No one knew what terrible form it took underwater. Its breath is so toxic it wilts crops. It was blamed for epidemics and drought. If it marks you as its victim the only way to escape it is to cross a freshwater stream as it is a creature of the ocean.
