Burach Bhadi
Burach bhadi are leech-like parasites. They are black in color with a large mouth full of teeth, and grow up to the size of a hand. They have a minor population scattered in small freshwater ponds all throughout the northern continent. Burach bhadi feed off other annelids, minor parasites in the water, and even their own kind.
The burach bhadi inside Svar-loka’s Gate are kept in well guarded sacred pools. Each colony has two source pools of burach bhadi, one for the common famoire, and one for the Raelur. The burach bhadi are the source of a famoir’s offensive powers. Without these annelids, the fomoire are next to helpless. The colony’s pools are protected above all other resources in a colony. A fomoir in the colony isn’t even shown where these pools are until they come of age.
When a burach bhadi is inserted inside a fomoir, it completely changes their behavior. The burach bhadi live inside the fomoir’s body within the muscle lining surrounding aura channels. They feed off their host’s aura and respond acutely to the hormones the fomoire release. With these hormones the fomoir can command the burach bhadi to extend out of their body and attack their enemy. The aura the burach bhadi feed off gives them the ability to grow in size, stretching out to great lengths and move around quickly. They dig their sharp teeth into the enemy, gouging out large chunks of flesh. If a burach bhadi gets hurt, it retreats back into the host’s body and uses the aura it feeds off to heal at alarming speeds.
Fomoire can absorb red jasper into their body through their aura. This crystal gives the burach bhadi a boost of energy and power depending on the size and purity of the crystal. The burach bhadi of the Realur can also feed off obsidian. When the annelids absorb this stone, it gives them a temporary hardened shell and sharper teeth.
The burach bhadi inserted inside a young fomoir are about the size of a coin and hardly noticeable. As they grow and multiply, they reshape the fomoir’s body so they are still able to move around freely. Burach bhadi inside the Raelur don’t grow past the size of a finger and reproduce much slower. These burach bhadi don’t affect the shape of their host. Even though these burach bhadi are smaller in their natural state, they can still grow to the same size as the common burach bhadi when charged with aura. The only thing the Raelur have to worry about is that they have less burach bhadi to attack with than the average fomoir. That’s when obsidian comes in handy and tips the scales in the Raelur’s favor.
