Yuangraith

Yuangraith’s recent history has been marred by civil war and regicide, but thank’s to the current Ruler, Alia Rasjari is beginning to prosper again. Oldest child of Ranvar Rasjari and his first wife Amia, Alia was raised from birth to be queen, her father upon seeing her after her birth decided that the ancient law (for a Estradorian nation anyway) that forbid women to ascending to the throne of Yuangraith was wrong and needed to be changed.   He enacted many reforms to make it possible for a daughter if they were eldest to inherit land, businesses, titles, serve in government and the military etc but before he could enact the reform that would make her Queen upon his death, his brother Anarki, along with the support of over half the lords of the land, slit his brother’s throat in the Lord’s Assembly. Alia’s bodyguards spirited her out of the country with as much gold as they could carry, with a squadron of Yuangraithian Kataphrakti and three companies of the Kings own Royal Guard, to protect her.   Alia’s brothers supported their Uncle in his stopping her from ascending to the throne because they all knew that he was unable to father children, so one of them would ascend upon his death. That didn’t sit well with Hajir, her oldest sibling from her father’s second marriage, as the oldest son he believed he should have taken the throne from his father upon his death.   This precipitated a civil war where half the army supported Hajir and half the army supported Anarki, it lasted almost five years, neither side having enough support to end the threat of the other, cities and regions would change hands regularly.   Alia at this time was trying to find support to take back her country, and her throne, she initially set sail from Vanjuir to Valantaria on a Juilunian cargo ship which sunk on one of the smallest South Edarian Islands, inhabited by nobody, only pirates and strip miners would spend time in the Islands, and her, her bodyguards and the crew that survived were stranded for three months, surviving best they could off the land.   But luck would have it, a fleet of Brogthanian trade vessels, under the command of Trade Admiral Carkar Stoutbane, who took her and what was left of her bodyguard to Galthiar, where they could take a Dwarwen airship to Valantaria, it was here she met Mariana Bourhal, commander of the Crimson Cargans.   (Cragans are massive quadropedal felines with red and blue fur, huge teeth, vicious and territorial, they plague the highlands of Valataria, even a concerted effort by the Dwarves of the great mountain ranges of the continent hasn’t proved successful in wiping them out)   Mariana was immediately smitten with the younger Alia, who reciprocated the feelings, and the Mercenary pledged her company to the cause, and convinced the rest of her cohort (12 companies of Wayfinder Mercenaries) that the travel and battle was worth it, given that the future queen had a huge fund and pledged even more to them if they took up her cause.   Alia hired the ships of Admiral Stoutbane to take here and her new mercenaries back to Estradoris and with the help of her father’s old Allies, Dankiros of Gelonde and Karina of Baragel, marched into her country with an army larger than both her brother and Uncle had available.   After the first three battles her army had fought, Alia had taken back a third of her country from her Uncle and Brother and began distributing food to the starving and tents and blankets to the dispossessed, promising she would find them new places to live or build them if need be.   This was what won her Yuangraith back, while her brother and Uncle had concentrated on the Lords and keeping them happy, they had alienated the people, and put hardship and depredation upon them, many of the young men who had deserted the army during different parts of the war because of this joined her army, and many of Anarki and Hajir’s forces defected to her side.   By the end of that year she had defeated both her brother and her uncle and her country was free of their tyranny, but much of the wealth of her country, the Cocala bean had been left to rot in the fields, and it has taken Yuangraith the ten years since Alia’s coronation to recover from the three years of strife.   Alia rules with an even hand and a kind heart, with her wife Mariana, and her sister Camali her heir, commanding her army and learning to follow in her footsteps respectively. She is much loved and respected by the people of her country, and the Lords Assembly has learned not to cross her, as she has made a lord or royal as culpable under the law as any commoner, they step lighter than ever.
