Wayfinders Organization in Hamanshiron | World Anvil

Wayfinders

On Hamanshiron the role of mercenary and mediator, lawgiver and guide are the Wayfinders. Not a single mercenary company of any good repute is not registered with the Wayfinders and most likely to have at least a couple of operatives within their ranks.   There are the Legions of the Wayfinders, the Order's army which is open about their service to the Order, they say a contract only goes so far and if an employer violates the code of the Legion then not only do they immediately rip up their contract but they expect the rest of the contract to be paid in full, a few employers who have found the wrath of the Legion fall upon them when they refuse to honour that agreeement and find their former contractor facing them in their next battle, free of charge to their opponents.   Entire Legions of the Order are committed to one war or another and some have been for , the 30th to 56th Legions are currently ensconsed within the Islath Islands attempting to keep the Islath War, which has been going on for close to four hundred years, confined to the island chain (the 42nd to 56th Legion are made up entirely of Marines and their ships, ringing the Islands in an attempt to keep each of the Navies within a defined border).   A Wayfinder is also empowered to make and keep the peace between two warring factions if they so please to do so, and many of the Greater treaties were written by one Wayfinder or another.   All Wayfinders are given the Right to dispense Low, Middle and High Law, within the borders of their assigned command. But it is in their original duty that we find their name, that of guide and scout for those unfamiliar with a particular region, and a duty that many to this day still follow. They are also empowered by the merchant, mage and bard guilds to negotiate on their behalf, and protect any travelling member of their guilds from harm.

Structure

The Wayfinder Knight-General, leads the secret inner circle of Knights of the Wayfinders, whom in turn have their own section of the Order to which they oversee.   They are the Knight-Cleric, who oversees the Templars, Priests and Paladins of the order and relations with the various churches.   The Knight-Whisperer who oversees the Orders spy network and maintains the Order's relationship with the various Thieves Guilds around the world.   The Knight-Marine oversees the Order's fleet and Maritime operatives, also keeps good relations with the various Sailing organisations throughout Hamanshiron.   The Knight-Purser is the Master of Coin of the Order and keeps a watch on the vast network of banks and merchants houses where the Orders money is kept or increased, they also maintain the Order's relationship with the Merchants Guilds throughout the world.   The Knight-Arcane is the master of Magic for the Order, they ensure that the magic users within the Order aren't doing things they shouldn't, also ensures the Order's relationship with the Mage's Guild and the Towers of Magic are kept mutually beneficial.   The Knight-Constable is the commander of the Order's internal security force, who investigate any possible bad apples within the order, and often work alongside the agents of the Knight-Arcane so both the Knights Constable and Arcane have probably the best working relationship of the members of the council.   Finally the Knight-MInd, the senior representative of the Psionic members of the Order, tasked with maintaining the relations with the various Psionic peoples and overseeing the rest of the Psions in the order.   The order Mercenary force is broken up into 115 Legions, which are then broken into 3 cohorts, which are then broken up into 12 companies of varying size, the duty that those Legions take up are dependent on the skills of the companies within them.   Should there be another Great War the Wayfinder Knight-General becomes the overall commander of the Legions of the Wayfinder order, the Council of the Light believes that they retain overall control of the Order, but secret changes were made so that the order remained free of internal council politics in the event of war. Wayfinders swear their service to the Light, rather than the Council of the Light as it was in the beginning.

Public Agenda

The Wayfinder's public agenda is as Mediator, Mercenary and Lawgiver for vast swathes of the world, they not only negotiate upon their own behalf but often for the Mages guild and a number of other organisations so everyone gets a fair deal.
