The Inquisitorius

Where the Templars are the military and open force of the Church, the Inquisitorius is the shadow organization of the Church of the Seven.  They investigate heresy, blasphemy, and more high profile threats to the religious teachings.  Similar to the Night Guild and Clan Oni's special operations, the Dark Hand, they are special forces.  The Inquisitorius is who the Church sends when they need deniability and things to be done without drawing attention.  However, like any open secret, most know that if an inquisitor gets involved, things are much more serious than what is originally thought.  They are the best of the best: detectives, assassins, and at times, bodyguards.   

Structure

The Inquisitorius works in small sects usually paired with the Templars.  Usually a squad consists of small groups of three to seven inquisitors (but always in odd numbers to prevent stalemates when decisions need to be made).  Particular Inquisitors can operate alone, and these are almost always veterans.  Each region caries a Warden who is the highest ranking Inquisitor for that region, they in turn answer to the Grand Inquisitor, who in turn answers to the Church's Bishops and Most Holy. 

Culture

The nature of the Inquisitorius is to root out enemies of the faith (and this is an extremely liberal designation).  Most of the time, secrecy is needed to achieve this goal, and as such most will present themselves as either commoners or Templars instead of revealing what they are.  Inquisitors are slow to trust anyone but themselves and their superiors - a faith in which can usually be all encompassing.  They are indoctrinated to follow any order from the Church so long as they are authorized by members with the authority to order it.  In this sense, outsiders frequently call them zealots, but they view themselves as the only true believers.

Public Agenda

Whenever a Inquisitor gets involved, something big is going on.  With this in mind, the organization keeps a low profile and tries to avoid public involvement.  In truth, many commoners don't know about them, or think that they are a myth.  Templars are extremely weary of Inquisitors as their involvement with the Order frequently means life is going to get really tough or end very soon.

Assets

The full might of the Church of the seven supports the Inquisitors.  They have access to Temples, safehouses, healing, funds, anything they need really.  But most live quite modest lives following the vows of the church.

History

The Inquisitorius was formed in response to the Church's concern over organizations such as the Dark Hand, the Knights Maji, and the Order of the White Oak.  They viewed in necessary to have a group that could do things in the shadows that the Church could not in the light.
