White Hair Sulfur Bacteria

White Hair Sulfur Bacteria is a shockingly large form of bacteria found around hydrothermal vents in the waters of the Underdark. it grows in filliments that can reach up to 30 cm in length, forming massive mats on the underwater floors around the vents. these mats become the basis of ecosystems, as crabs and mussels and shrimp graze on the bacteria, and tubeworms keep the bacteria inside their bodies forming a symbiotic relationship.
the White Hair Sulfur Bacteria feeds by synthesizing sulfur from the hydrothermal vents, turning hydrogen sulfide into sulfer for itself. it is also capable of fixing oxygen, and can also metabolize hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, or phosphorous for different purposes.

White Hair Sulfur Bacteria reproduces by fragmentation. once a filliment has broken off, it continues to grow until it reaches the limit of its growth, creating bacterial colonies called mats.
