Hallowed Earth
The world of Hallowed Earth is a place where history has a new beginning. Thousands of years ago the world was ravaged by an apocalyptic event. Now, nobody knows history past the last thousand years or so, including what the apocalyptic event was. Dragons have been hunted nearly to extinction, with only young feral ones left in the wild, and a handful of ancient dragon lords in hiding. These dragon lords may know the history this land has forgotten, but they aren't telling anyone.
Archeology is popular, and many ancient advanced technologies have been unearthed and studied. Firearms, cars, and electricity are available to the wealthy, while everyone else lives a medieval lifestyle. Adventurers are often hired to scout excavation sites and ruins for artifacts and dangers. The Institute of Science, Magic, And Technology is a research and development organization that studies magic and technology.
Magic and language are intrinsically linked in Hallowed Earth, with spoken, written, and signed language being the key that unlocks magical power. Years of training is required to produce magical effects from language, but the efforts are worth it.
The two biggest powers of the land are the Dajeet Republic and their enemies the Udori Empire. Each are annexing their neighbors and the uneasy peace between them could break out into full scale war any time.
