Vanoke

"Old Man" Vanoke was the start of everything. It was from him that Varsha the Life Mother was born and found shelter - all the world began by his impulse for goodness. He is the primordial creator, and his body is the air and the water.    And yet, Vanoke is not a frequently worshipped god. He is alien and distant, apathetic to most mortal suffering; indeed, he can be vindictive with his wind and his waves.    In Uvaran cosmology, Vanoke is the elements of Air and Water (Varsha being earth and fire). Ertinar may rule the fish and part the waves, but he does so through Vanoke's fundamental essence.    In stories, Vanoke is rarely present - he is a distant figure.    As a note, Vanoke is not a real entity in the world. He is a character in Uvaran imagination, refined by centuries of meditation, politics, and cultural exchange. Those who worship him understand that, unlike Ustav (who is real) or the main Gods (who have fabricated evidence by Emesh ), Vanoke has no reliable manifestations or traces. He is the anthropomorphized sky and sea, and it is seen as largely self-evident that these parts of the world can think (perhaps capriciously or callously).

Divine Domains

Vanoke's Domains are Sky, Sea, Survival, and Neutrality.   The God is primarily worshipped as a way to ward off doom at sea or by storm - through some also channel his dispassion to represent and worship him as a god of stoicism and peace.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Vanoke is represented through the alchemical symbols for air and water.

Holidays

Vanoketen, Vanoke's great holiday, is Shernmoy (February) 12th. Old Man Vanoke's Day is a day to sing, check in on one's neighbors, and eat all sorts of pancakes and pies together if foodstocks allow. Candles are lit and blessed, representing the hope of survival and the acts that the God took to preserve life at its most vulnerable. Babies are blessed and purified, as are the elderly.
