Herzog (Hairt-sook)

Herzogs are powerful regional noble landowners in Stildane, nobility in the Hainish tradition. "Duke" might be a good translation, though the title has its own quirks. 
A Herzog is simultaneously a royal of their own little kingdom and a vassal of an overlord; there is a simultaneous grandeur and subordination inherent in the title that is difficult to capture in more generic terms like 'Duke'. Herzogs can call themselves Princes, walk with pride among royals and elector-princes, and rule over chains of lesser nobles. Herzogs are not, however, ever actually fully independent. 
All Hainish Elector-Princes are Herzogs, but not all Herzogs are Elector-Princes.
