Liminal Attachment

Limn attach to (or potentially bud from) a host universe, particularly at points where the host universe is defective and/or vulnerable. The precise conditions for the compatibility of the Limn and its host are unknown. Relationships vary from benign to invasive, from commensurate to parasitic. The following factors seem to favor the occurence of attachment points:

  • high Thematic Resonance (q.v.) with the host universe
  • weakness and brittleness due to natural aging of the host universe
  • intense localized emotions (such as admiration, fear, and rage)
  • threshhold states
  • pressure from cosmological contraction (see Cosmic Exhalation)
  • magically engineered defects, such as those routinely tethered to portals
  • narrative gaps (see Phantom Limns)
