The Asturan Badlands (As-Ture-An)
The Asturan Badlands is the barren, rotted remains of the once fertile Asturan Fields. It comprises of 412 varying sized craters - the smallest sitting at 312ft across and the largest at 12 miles across - and the stretches of land in-between. It is where the Earth Titan Holmenes was destroyed, and his lifeblood fuelled the areas vast fertility, until the recent Eceron Blight rendered it a barren, lifeless land.
Geography
The Asturan Badlands comprises of 412 craters, stretched in between the Dorian River to the south, the River Mede to the West, The Farkas Mountains and Holden Woods to the North, and the shores of The Daring Sea to the North East. The land in-between the craters is flat, scoured flat by the impacts that created the craters. There is no fresh water here. Nor does any plant life grow. The ground is bare rock, and the land is devoid of animal life.
History
In eons past, when the continents of the world were newly formed, before the sentient species has advanced beyond their areas of initial creation, a great war raged. The Elemental Titans, angered by the God's taming of their chaotic natures, rose up to attempt to free what they saw as a injustice against the elements. Many great battles raged across the surface of Haedras, including in the area known as The Asturan Badlands, where the Goddess, Phaylete, Goddess Of Arcane Brilliance, rent the Earth Titan Holmenes into 412 pieces, raining them down onto the earth below. These pieces created the 412 craters of the Badlands.
For millennia, life in the Asturan Badlands flourished. Indeed, until recently, it was known as The Asturan Fields. The lifeblood of Holmenes caused the area to become incredibly fertile, and the whole area was rife with bustling market towns and fertile farmlands. It has been fought over many times, and has had countless amounts blood spilt in it's fields. But it's importance in providing food for the entire continent of Eceron remained paramount.
That all changed during The Eceron Blight. The blight decimated the natural landscape of the entire continent, but The Asturan Fields was hit particularly hard. Scholars believe the Blight managed to affect the very lifeblood of Holmenes, turning it sour and foul. The area never recovered following the Blight, it's source of fertility gone. Now it is a vast. barren reach of cratered wasteland, worthy of it's new name of The Asturan Badlands.
