Haedrian Halfling

Haedrian Halflings are an incredibly adaptive species, growing, through an unconscious process, to better fit in around the major species with which they spend their formative teens and twenties. For instance, growing up amongst Orcs will cause a halfling to develop more pronounced, widened facial features, grow taller and more muscular, and develop a darker skin tone. A halfling growing up amongst gnomes however will inevitably be shorter, more wiry, with larger eyes and ears than the norm.   Many see this ability for adaptation as the blessing of Rheyja, Goddess Of Inevitable Change. Indeed, the halflings themselves have taken her as their patron goddess, and many of her champions throughout history have been halflings, with many halflings also being proud members of The Rheyjite Cult.

History

Haedrian Halflings have always existed, as far as any other species has, and have spent most of that time integrated amongst most other species in the world. There was a time, following the War In Elysium, that Haedrian Halflings that had grown and adapted amongst Elves and Dwarves were shunned by even others of their own species, seen as traitors and spies. This mistreatment eventually died down, but since then, the number of Halfings choosing to live with Elves and Dwarves has greatly diminished.
