The city-state of Runsgard

It’s conception began during the 90s after the First Aug Wave, while EU philosophers, activists and scientists were worried about the future of Augs followed the emergence of heroes and villains. The EU gave the project approval was given in 1999 and the construction began in 2000 (they began searching for a super hero team at the same time). The city was inaugurated in 2007, during the Second Wave.

History

The idea of an Augmented utopia was first brought up by the transhumanist philosopher Golbahar Kurush during the 80s in his book Singularity, a philosophical novel where the main character, a Singular (in the book, a genetically-engineered human made with superhuman abilities to fight for them in their conflicts) ends in a place called Runsgard (from the Old Norse: Rúnsgardr; “the enclosure of the mysteries”), where he finds other Singulars, who have escaped the humans and now live in an utopia, apart from the humans.
The idea of a Rúnsgardr soon became popular both amongst transhumanist and anti-Augs as a way to diffuse the tensions between Regs and Augs. For the first as a haven and a promise for Augs to be able to live their lives in peace. For the second as a way to get protection from Augs by getting them away.
It was during the 90s, following the emergence of heroes and villains, cemented by the Cologne Incident and the deterioration of life quality amongst Aug that pro-Aug EU philosophers, activists and scientists began seriously considering building a place for Augs. They began drafting a project for an Aug country called Runsgard, based on the Singularity city.
The EU gave its approval for the Runsgard project in 1999, after a peak in anti-Augs actions during that year and the construction began in 2000.
The city was inaugurated on the 22nd of February 2007.
