The Kaminoans put a great deal of emphasis on genetic manipulation to create the best race. Much of an individual's talents (and worth) are matched with their eye color. Grey eyed Kaminoans are of the highest caste--leadership and administration. Yellow eyes denote middle castes while blue eyes are lower class individuals. Green eyes are the lowest level, for trash collectors and munitions handlers. Lily was born as an oddity. She has one grey eye and one disfigured green eye.
Lily had many problems growing up in such an ordered society. She was often picked on and would not do well on the standardized placement tests. She would not see things as others did. She often would think outside the box. However a particular high-ranking administer saw potential in her and worked behind-the-scenes to promote her. Many Kaminoans in such a condition would have been eliminated. He recognized her mechanical aptitude but possibly also realized her burgeoning force sensitivity. Eventually, he pulled strings to have her train in his facilty.
At the age of 20, her patron lost position during some political upheaval and had to go into hiding. Unfortunately, he was not able to warn Lily. She was on her own. Fearing for her own safety, she leveraged her skills to get a mechanics position on one of the last outgoing Kaminoan research vessels. She proved herself to be more skilled than the properly genetically engineered mechanic, and he started making troubles for her. She betrayed any remaining trust by stealing a Jedi journal she saw he had and jumping ship at the next port.
She found a berth on another ship, again as a mechanic. She worked her way out towards the Outer Rim. In the library on one of the ships, she met a strange traveler who sold her a map to Shangrila, a verdant valley on a desert planet, for a mere 10 cr. She bought it because she recognized Jedi runes in the margin, though she cannot translate them. She has since learned that all translation keys have been destroyed or collected to the high security Jedi archive in the Archaeology Department of the University of Bar'Leth. Jedi materials and information is considered highly treasonous by the Empire and locked away because of it.
On her last ship, they were raided by the Forsaken Reavers, a cannibalistic pirate group, and she was taken as a prisoner. One of her cell mates was taken away to be eaten but she and some new companions were rescued by Trenon Brask and his crew before their time came up. She now works for him in Mos Shuuta on the planet Tatooine.
