Kunth
On the windswept mountaintops looking over the lush valleys and barren peaks, one may notice a few oddly shaped cave entrances. Some seem to have hinged sheets of rock which open inward. These are the subtle signs that you are on the surface of the kingdom of Kunth.
Structure
Kunth seems to be a feudal nation on the surface, but looking past the king and his vassals, one sees a collection of people who are treated as equals, no matter their station. Titles are more of a formality than an indication of social class or power. Titles are most often given to those who have good leadership skills and value what the people value. Lineage helps only slightly. If the fifteenth in line for the throne is more charismatic and helpful than the others, he may get the throne.
Public Agenda
Kunth strives to serve its people, and to ensure that they never serve against their will.
Assets
Kunth has a very large army and several biochemical weapons such as poisonous spores and dangerous molds. However, most international organizations agree that these should not be used in warfare unless it is against a supernatural dangerous foe. Kunth also has a GDP of 23 billion gp. They are one of the few kingdoms that still use metallic currency. They also have a number of physical weapons which are intimidating. Nargoli can be superior engineers and weapon smiths.
History
Kunth began as a collection of smaller tribes of underground peoples. The Nargoli gathered together and through trade and conquest unified all tribes of the Northwestern Silvestrian mountains. The country grows slowly but steadily as mining activities brought new people to the country. Then, the Corthalians arrived. After speaking with the Kunthite leaders about Silvestri, they settled down above the kingdom and began to forcefully rule the Kunthites. Fortunately for Nargoli, they do not have a very high capacity for magical energy. As such they could not be entirely dominated and were able to overcome the Corthalian enslavement methods. They routed the Corthalians back towards the sea. Now, Kunth is a proud, self-sufficient country which is hesitant to engage in alliances or wars with other races, especialy those with magical capabilities. They have a strong bond with Serodechia as the nation is a fellow territory that became free from Corthalian rule.
Demography and Population
Kunth, due to its underground nature and sheer architecture, is primarily Nargoli, though there are a few notable human and Kavunthite families living in the less vertically oriented spaces. Kunth boasts a population of 700,000, one fourth of which are non-Nargoli.
Military
Kunth has a very stealthy military. Due to their environment, they rely on guerrilla-warfare tactics in their native country and do not venture into other countries often unless allied with a specific people group that is not nation-specific. They have no magical weapons, butt they do own a number of siege weapons in case of emergency. They also have a number of explosives to use to collapse tunnels into major settlements.
Technological Level
Kunth is at the forefront of scientific development for peaceful and philanthropic goals. They have the ideal environment for well-controlled experiments. Being underground, there are few drats to interrupt experiments and promote contamination. They also have the most advanced all-terrain vehicles. They have rather efficient mining techniques as well. They also provide the scientific community with vast knowledge of underground ecosystems.
Religion
Kunthites primarily practice what is known as Valueism, a religion that focuses on abstract concepts more than personified deities. Kunthites view personified gods as malleable and fickle, not very stable objects of worship. Instead, they chose a selection of core values which they worship by practicing those values and discussing them in relation to law. Kunthites also value freedom of religion. They do not restrict other faiths from establishing a presence in their settlements, but the Values are the most influential in terms of leadership and law.
Foreign Relations
Kunth is a very independent and isolationist nation. They agree to work with individual companies rather than countries themselves. This is because of their past interactions with slavers. This self-sustaining nation sends out explorers to report back with news of the outside world and how it may affect them. Kunth is very cordial with the countries of Serodechia and Dauthel because they were all under the same empire at one point, and each understands the importance of freedom and equality.
Agriculture & Industry
Kunth boasts a vast selection of fungal and bacterial products. There are a select few who work with tubers in the peaks above, but for the most part, Kunth sticks to underground cultivation. They manufacture many explosives for mining purposes, but they also export the excess to other nations in need, provided those countries will also use them for industrial purposes, not offensive weaponry. Kunth also exports many varieties of gems, minerals and stone. Quarries do not breach the surface, nor do they breach cave systems intentionally. In fact, cave systems that are previously untouched are often resealed before quarry men continue working. Kunthites export a few proceed goods such as dried foods and clothing.
Trade & Transport
Kunth trades many products with other countries. Most are sealed into containers due to their volatile or fragile natures. The containers are often packaged into cylinders which are then rolled out oft the tunnels to the border. The Kunthite border differs depending on the level one stands at. The lower one travels, the broader the nation extends. As such, many of the most profitable trade ports are in the center of the country. Within the border, Kunthites often use mining equipment to ferry materials and goods back and forth. Established roads follow along a combination of natural caves and mined tunnel networks.
Education
Kunthites are highly educated in both philosophy and science. Many of their number elect to learn trades rather than attend higher education because of the value of family in this nation.
Infrastructure
Kunth established a few airports and ocean ports on the surface. Border towns lie primarily on the surface or near natural cave systems with entrances in other nations. Kunthites often use natural caves to establish roads and buildings, using the walls of the largest caves to build their homes in. Stalactites and stalagmites provide landmarks and guard-rail anchors. Stalactites are protected by national conservationist organizations which do their best to preserve the natural beauty of the caves they live in.
