Hitchcock

Hitchcock was once a prosperous fishing and trading town on the Hinder Ocean, on Oracus’ southeastern coast. With pirates making a comeback in the Hinder, and trade primarily following the Queen’s Road from southern Port Xander to the central highlands capital of Cair di Demonaica, Hitchcock has been forgotten for fifteen years or more. Much reduced, with many empty buildings falling into disrepair (or become home for the homeless, stray orks, or worse), the village of a couple of hundred souls survives on its fishing nets and its peat and cranberry marshes to the southwest, and from some lumber logged from the Burnfaire Woods to the west and north. It also boasts a very picturesque twin waterfall where the Pining River roars over the hundred-foot-high cliffs just to the north of the city. Some travelers still come to Hitchcock just to see the Falling Lovers.   Hitchcock also boasts an impressive, if disintegrating, port, accessed by a sloping road that is a marvel of engineering left over from the Age of Wonders, carved out of the very landscape to descend to sea level between steep walls of stone, and paved with massive stones brought from northern quarries.   There is also a lighthouse to the south, called only that -- the Lighthouse -- and mostly dark these days, as there is little need to warn passing ships of the dangerous southern rocks and reefs, since there are hardly any passing ships (and, if one is being honest, the locals rather hope there’ll be a few wrecks that salvagers can scavenge from).   Hitchcock once had a proper police force (and cobblestone streets, some of which still remain), but now there is just a Constable, Right Heinritch Paltor, who does his best to quell what disputes arise, but that duty mostly falls to Reverend Elric Kinsworth of the Church of the One.

The decaying town of Hitchcock, on Oracus' crumbling southeastern coast, sits atop the Fisting Cliffs above the Augur Coast, where the waters of the Hinder Sea lap and the corpses of dead sea monsters wash up.
