The Great Walk

"It is vital that we walk, not just for us that we may survive, but for those we leave behind that they may thrive, and above all, it is important for Azlyð so that their way is upheld" - Sageword Hrun Elder
Azlyð's oldest tradition, the Great Walk is a way of life for most humans. The Great Walk refers to the journey made across the world each year, visiting each of the four major settlements along the way. The Great Walk is a necessary way of life, as it allows for humanity to avoid the worst of the corrupted races' attacks. The small populations of the settlements providing too little a threat for the races to mount large offences on them. The Great Walk also serves to honour Azlyð, showing a devotion to the cycles it is believed Azlyð creates.

History

The Great Walk has existed for as long as can be remembered, going relatively unchanged throughout the thousands of years humanity has trekked across Azlyð. Observing the Galtbjörn as they travelled relatively safely across Azlyð, avoiding the greatest concentrations of the corrupted races on an instinct provided at birth. It was decided that humanity should follow in their pattern to improve their chances of survival from the corrupted races as well as providing them with the resources available from the Galtbjörn.   As countless elderly souls fell to disease or held up the rest of the tribe, it was decided that settlements should be created for those incapable of upholding the Great Walk. These settlements would then be named after the seasons of the year the greater nomadic force would visit them in.

Execution

The Great Walk has no beginning or end, it continues endlessly, cycling constantly across Azlyð. The Great Walk follows a complete journey across Azlyð in a circle, going between each settlement in between. The Great Walk exists so that humanity can avoid the corrupted races of Azlyð, remaining safely ahead of the majority of their population.

Components and tools

All that is needed for the Great Walk are the people who walk it. These nomads bring with them tents and livestock and goods to help them pass on their journey with ease.

Participants

All capable bodies are expected to make the Great Walk. Those who are physically or mentally unable to continue the journey are left to make their home in one of the settlements, either permanently or until they are able to return to the walk. Equal weight is given to all who take the Great Walk, as every person serves a vital and specific role towards the undertaking of the journey.

Observance

The Great Walk is observed constantly, with each new step and every Kilometre gained. Each season helps track where the nomadic tribe is meant to be. If they haven't made it to the next settlement by the next season, then they must pick up their pace drastically.
