Domus
Built on the Nectar River, Domus is the first city ever founded of Raelon in Gromlin. Built upon a series of bridges, dams, and levies, much of the city actually rests on the river, with various canals and waterways acting as the city’s roads. Sitting on the west side of the river are the Highborn, the Sophist districts, while on the east side of the river are the Canals, the Protector districts. The city itself is surrounded by high stone walls that even cross the river. For ships to pass through they must travel through a series of wide gates and wide canals. The walls also surround the highborn district, cutting it off from the rest of the city. Montcrix castle towers over the city, overlooking the Highborn district.
Government
The city is run by a hand picked council that answers directly to the king, who also help maintain the entire kingdom. Second to the King is the General of the Armies, Lord Zacharias Reed; and High Treasurer Winston Ambrose.
Defences
The defense of Domus are strong, and while it is not a fortress, it being the throne and seat of power for all of Raelon, the crown has taken many steps to ensure its protection. High and thick walls surround the city and protect its waters. These walls also surround the king's palace and the Protector district for a layered defense.
Districts
The Highborn District is the home of Montcrix Castle and many of the elite of the city. From here King Cornelias rules over his vast kingdom. Many of the city’s and the kingdom’s administrations are handled. The High Court, the Ladways, and the noble catacombs are here. This area is closely guarded by the city watch and the garrison cohort, which is made easier by the district being sealed off from the rest of the city by the high walls.
The Sophist District is for the more learned man. This area attracts many philosophers, scholars, theologists, musicians, and intellectuals. Guild halls, temples, schools, academies, banks, high end inns, and more cover the district. Considering the area is often used by the more wealthy, the local guard are keeping this place protected.
The Protector District is mostly used for the middle class home and markets but is also the home for the local barracks for both the city guard and the garrison cohort as well as the military docks. Situated in the middle of the district is the city’s prison which delve beneath the river’s surface.
The Canals are the home of the lower class and slums. Easily the largest and most populated district in the city. Small crimes, like pickpocketing, are very common in this area. Rumors suggest that there are a few thieves guilds working in the area.
