The Blessed Empire of Woe

The Blessed Empire of Woe or the Reformed emprie of Woe as it is more popularly-known to those across the Sea of the Four Knights, was formed in the year *, when rising tension over the previous years finally culminated in a great schism within the government and church of the Kingdom of Audra, Gnesh and The Five Thrones of Shashyona.   Bounded by the Eastern Rift in the north and Australiis Sea in the south, it’s surrounded by several countries on the east and west but still remains the largest country on the continent. Most outsiders see it as a nation of Sphinx worshipers, brutes and pain-mongerers where tyranny prevails.

History

The Empire started off as a confederacy of small tribes of the Woe ethnicity. Soon they were met by three expansionist kingdoms: Audra, The Five Thrones of Shash-Yona, and the old Empire of Gnesh who soon began to enslave the Woe Tribes. To escape slavery, some ran to the mountains in north Eden, some going as far as to escape across the Rift to Aksanna. Those that stayed settled in the mountains, dubbed the High Places, where they created the Hael. There the the tribes found a Sphinx raising a set of conjoined twins. The Sphinx passed down the knowledge of the Faeroahs to the twins, who in turned passed the knowledge to their people. The tribes named the twins Isurukas and Tutama who would go on to become the first Grand Accuser of Woe. Isurukas and Tutama sent messengers to the enslaved tribesmen, fighting in Gnesh, Audra, and the Five Thrones, telling them to turn on their masters and create a new country, a new empire to spread the knowledge of the Sphinx.   Soon word came that the king of Audra lay dead in his throne room. Then the tale of the how the council room of the Gneshi was carpeted with blood, followed by how one of the sitting member of the Council of Kings of the Five Thrones had his innards quartered all over Eden. With their thrall armies turning against them, the enslaved had now become the masters. The Grand Accusers marshaled their forces in Hael and began their march down the mountains into the Plains of Peace and attacked the Reliquary of Armor, a city belonging to the The Five Thrones of Shashyona. The Jaari'i, who considered theses wars a human matter up until then, joined the fight on the side of the Five Thrones. Now dealing with all of the Jaari'i that lived on Eden, the now Empire of Woe struck an accordance with the Five Thrones, but continued to struggle with Gnesh and Audra.

Religion

The people of the empire believe in the ascetic teachings of Isurukas and Tutama. The basis of the teachings are the stories of how the Sphinxes surrendered the world to the humans after they inherited it from the Faeroahs. The Grand Accusers philosophy is to punish the human flesh for turning on the Sphinxes through asceticism. Pain through self-punishment is seen as a way of erasing the evils of humanity from ones soul. It’s rumored, that the warriors of Woe wear spikes inside of their armor.
