Noble Docks
In sharp contrast to the chaotic grime of the Public Docks, the Noble Docks are a masterclass in cold, orderly opulence. This private harbor is carved from polished obsidian and dark marble, rising high above the oily waters to ensure the noble houses literally look down upon the trade that fuels their power.
The air here lacks the stench of rot; instead, it is perfumed by expensive incenses burned in silver braziers to mask the
Shadowfell’s natural gloom. Access is strictly controlled by private militias, and only vessels flying the colors of the Great Houses—most notably the golden scale of House Harskel—are permitted to moor here.
Everything at the Noble Docks is handled with eerie, silent efficiency. Instead of rowdy wharf masters, the Noble Docks are patrolled by elite, well-paid mercenaries and bound shadow-constructs. They don't shout; they simply bar your path with gleaming halberds.High-reaching cranes made of brass and darkwood operate via clockwork or magic, lifting chests of rare spices, exotic essences, and fine silks with a whisper-quiet whir. A wide, elevated walkway overlooks the berths. Here, House factors and patriarchs negotiate contracts over fine wine, watching their wealth grow without ever having to touch a greasy mooring rope.
