Lady Ophelia Foxworth-Hayford entered Thurnon to find it in the grip of some strange phenomenon, its people still as though frozen in the midst of their actions, many frozen by the cold, but still alive, seemingly Sustained by The Light.
The city bore evidence of some kind of riot broken out between the cityfolk and a force of Irogonian Men-at-Arms, with a massive barricade blocking the road between the city's church and the burned remains of Governor Magnus Ellmenrich's home.
After visiting the ruins and finding the Governor Miraculously alive, Ophelia visited the church where she found the body of Mother Brunhilde Torchbearer truly dead, surrounded by attendants and evidence of Shade having been summoned.
Ophelia carried the remnants of the Shades back to the Governor's home, hoping that in the basement tomb of Sister Annarel Ellmenrich they might reform and bear some kind of witness to the events that had devastated the city.
Instead, when the Shades reformed they became a mass of jumbled limbs, an abomination of twisted parts, rather than distinct forms. Ophelia attempted to commune with the spirits within the mass, but was drawn into it and would have been lost except for the intervention of her Sworn Sword ser Nithan Challinder.
As she recovered from this experience, it became apparent that she had suffered some mental damage from the encounter, not least that her eyes had become blackened.
