Gendarmerie

Borseti's law enforcement and military force under one roof, both the wardens and the guarda are considered ranking officers under one leadership. They work hand in hand with one another inside of and out of the colony to ensure its citizens safety.   The Wardens work solely within the territory of Borseti and directly with its citizens. They answer as officers of the law and uphold the peace within the city.   The Guarda are Borseti's military forces, often only seen within the city limits between patrol rotations. They secure and patrol the cities perimeter to prevent the approach of any unfamiliar forces as well, they can and have been deployed to other cities to help protect the citizens there.

Payment & Reimbursement

Wardens funding comes directly from the Provincial and Federal governments, their equipment, vehicles and weaponry all falling within the legislative standards.   Guarda funding comes from the Association Fees collected by the colony, this allows their equipment, vehicles and weaponry to vary from that of their co-compatriots. As well, as they answer only to the Councilmen and his office/officers their able to institute a wider variety of weaponry that would otherwise be banned form use by federal legislature.   Furthermore, Guarda receive Hazard Pay whenever deployed outside of the colonies defences.

Other Benefits

While the colony is not small, and the military forces are much the same, widely varied, it isn't hard to identify a Warden or Guarda officer on sight; each is required to carry their identifying credentials at all times, even when off duty. Regardless of officer not being on patrol, they are recognised by any citizens as a person of authority and trust.

Perception

Purpose

The Wardens and the Guarda both serve to protect the citizens of Borseti from civilian disputes and outside forces.

Social Status

Wardens are revered within the colony, many receiving benefits from the citizens of Borseti   Guarda are perceived as outcasts - while their service is appreciated they tend to bond with other Guarda and thus further ostracising them from the civilian population, not to mention a vast majority of the Guarda are also Registered Hunters.

Demographics

15% of Borseti's population is part of the Gendarmerie in either Wardens, Guarda or part of the Administration.

History

In 1920 with the population ever expanding after the end of the World War and many of its surviving veterans having witnessed the enemy troops use of supernatural means to wage war, Borseti found a need to develop the Gendarmerie. The first decade of its existence consisted primarily of only the Wardens, a dozen or so assigned officers spread through the colony reporting to the Councilmen, whom represented the only town judge at the time.   Just prior to the Second World War the Guarda were introduced, a small elite force of 6 with specialised training; the growing number of hunters and their families in an isolated part of Northern Quebec had become a fascination for some of the older supernatural, many small groups of vampires, werewolves and even ghouls tried their hand at infiltrating and destroying the colony. A Town Hall meeting determined the need to keep their borders safe and so the Guarda were formed.
