Alan Warwick Savresh Bloom

Alan Warwick Savresh Bloom (a.k.a. Madam Buttercup)

Alan Warwick Savresh Bloom, aka Madam Buttercup, is a well groomed middle aged man with the noticeable height of 6'4," broad chested and muscularly built, with warm, amber brown skin, medium brown hair, and observant green eyes. His facial hair is subject to change pending the current fashions.   He has a loud and boisterous personality that is as large as he is. He takes pride in his ability to finesse his way out of trouble when a casual observer might assume that he'd resort to brute strength. He's also vain as a peacock, and tends to practice his sword work primarily because it produces a complimentary silhouette that he can tailor to advantage.   While he's skilled enough with a rapier, his weapon of choice is words, and if negotiation fails, a crossbow.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Alan was born the second son to a middlingly wealthy guilded merchant family in the heart of Hammerdelve. He grew up with a flurry of expert tutors, many of whom were exasperated with his efforts. Though he has an acceptable aptitude for numbers and logistics, his true passions proved to be poetry and fashion. He was also possessed of a strong sense of adventure that his family considered less than favorable.   Sadly, he never proved to be much of a poet, but during his schooling he had a flair for prose, and would often indulge in lengthy essays and fictitious ventures instead of his assigned tasks. His philosophical bent and observant nature leant to a mature writing style that resulted in his first acceptance for printing at the ripe age of eleven - under an assumed name, of course.   Alan began writing political activism essays in his mid-teens, stirring up controversies. For years Hammerdelve has been in a delicate balance of non-aggression with the T'Bik Arcanum, but Alan's pieces would speak up about the hypocrisy of continuing trade arrangements with a nation engaged in heinous human rights violations, especially when it was no secret that the Arcanum has intentions of taking Hammerdelve eventually. Among other things.   As he neared full adulthood, such writings were no longer considered simply precocious, but bordering on seditious and blasphemous. And this was besides his "unmanly" interest in what Hammerdelve considers "womanly arts." He found himself becoming the black sheep of the family - and they didn't even know that he'd been quietly printing smut filled novelty books on the side.   Alan attended university as his family expected, but out from under their watchful gazes his subversive activities only increased. It was in university that he caught his first whiffs of the T'Bik resistance, and immediately fell in love. Knowing all too well the vital importance of steady and accurate communication, he began to invest himself heavily in learning the mechanics and logistics of journalism, especially as pertaining to inter-kingdom reporting. As he would say, "One thing lead to another, and that was that."   Kissing up to his family, Alan managed to weasel his way into traveling to Churchwall as a fabric trader, feeding into his parents' mercantile network while quietly building his own.   At present, he amuses himself by writing a gossip column disguised as a fashion report and continues to write and print smut filled romantic novelty books as a hobby.

Gender Identity

By Delvian standards, Alan skews feminine because of his interest in all things fashionable, which he considers to be terribly narrow minded. He's been known to occasionally don gowns to tweak noses and because he thinks it's horribly unfair that women are more readily allowed to wear flamboyant garb while the same is looked down upon for men.

Sexuality

Alan is actually a bit of a womanizer as well as being a hopeless romantic. Despite what many have believed, he's straight. He won't consider it insulting if you assume otherwise, unless you become insulting about it and then he'll put finesse aside to teach you a lesson.
