House Davenport
House Davenport is a brood of Vampires of clan Mekhet hat originate from England and came to America in the late 17th century and settled in Gotham City. The entire Mortal family had to emigrate at this time too, as they were suspected of practicing witchcraft and packing with the Devil due to the vampires in their ranks.
They are mostly members of the Invictus and have provided most of the city's Prince / Princess since the early 19th century.
It's power base stemmed from Davenport International Press, the publisher of the Daily Planet and numerous other influential newspapers and magazines.
Culture
Embrace
The House Davenport choose their members mainly from the descendants of the mortal Davenport family. Occasionally, outsiders are also accepted into the brood, such as husbands, lovers or very close friends, but this tends to be the exception.
Covenant
Most members of the brood belong to the Invictus, although there are a few exceptions. Most of these are young members of the brood who see no opportunity to live their own Danse Macabre in the rigid structures of the covenant. However, many of these "rebels" find their way into the ranks of the Invictus sooner or later, whether through their own motivation or through their affinity with other members of House Davenport.
Traditionally House Davenport supports the Lancea et Sanctum and in turn has the support of the Sanctum. This goes back to their English ancestry. The Davenports were devout Protestants and after Arthur Davenport became a vampire he became a parishioner of a small congregation of Lancea et Sanctum.
Nowadays, most of the family members are at least lip service parishioners of the Sanctum.
Torpor
Every member of House Davenport is encouraged to keep their blood potency relatively low in order to better relate to the younger vampires of the city. So it's more of a political move by the house.
The vampires of House Davenport therefore go into voluntary torpor after two hundred years at the latest and are woken up again after according to the vampire's instructions or fifty years at the latest.
Memories
All members of House Davenport keep detailed diaries. This is important in relation to their torpor culture in order to preserve or correct the vampires' memories. The diaries are kept in the Hall of Memories in the Sactuary below Exham Manor, theancestral home of the Davenport family.
