Laura Wayne (ne Cobblepot) was the daughter of Gotham City's longest serving Mayor, Theodore Cobblepot.
While travelling to Europe for vacation, the ship she was on sank only an hour out of Miller Harbour, leading to the deaths of many passengers, including Laura's own maid. It is likely that her later death by suicide was a result of the trauma she suffered during the accident, but the popular (if unkind) gossip at the time was that it was the loss of her jewels, rather than the loss of human life, which had disturbed the balance of her mind.
According to popular legend, her ghost haunts the Gotham Museum of Antiquities (formerly Wayne Manor) still searching for her lost jewels.
