Nyxiren was born during a time of chaos in the arcane lands which would later fall under Hydall's stewardship. After surviving the first apocalypse, marked by the rise of undead and the advent of holy warriors, Nyxiren sought power to safeguard himself and his family. In his youth, he made a fateful pact with a demon and traded his soul for unparalleled arcane gifts to become the first warlock.
This deal weighed heavily on him and fearing the day he would pay his debt Nyxiren turned to forbidden magic to defy mortality. He devised the first lich rites granting himself immortality at the cost of his humanity. Over the centuries, his hunger for power grew insatiable. His alliance with Hydall after the celestial wars began as camaraderie but eroded when Nyxiren abused Mystara’s ley lines, draining their arcane energy to bolster his strength. Hydall, seeing his actions as a threat to the world, reluctantly destroyed his old ally.
