Ebonbreak Haven

Ebonbreak Haven is a small port village situated in the far north of the Winter Continent. It was established as a sanctuary, providing healing and protection to travelers and merchants who brave the harsh, frozen landscape. The village is centered around an old keep that once served as a military stronghold but has since become a place of refuge. Governed informally by a collective of clerics and rogue healers, Ebonbreak operates without a strict hierarchy, prioritizing care and survival over politics. Its remote location and frigid climate result in minimal trade and contact with the outside world, making it a quiet yet vital haven in this desolate region.

Industry & Trade

The economy of Ebonbreak Haven is centered on survival rather than prosperity. The villagers rely heavily on fishing from the icy waters surrounding the port and growing hardy crops during the brief spring and summer months. Food preservation is a critical aspect of life here, as the land freezes over during the long, unforgiving winters. Due to its extreme northern location, Ebonbreak sees little trade, though it maintains a strong relationship with the walrus folk of Uron. This alliance provides occasional exchanges of resources, ensuring that both communities benefit from the partnership.

Infrastructure

The village is built around the old keep, a sturdy yet ominous structure that still bears the weight of its cursed history. While no longer serving a military purpose, the keep remains central to Ebonbreak’s identity, its halls now converted into healing spaces for clerics and rogue healers. The frozen shoreline serves as the lifeblood of the village, where fishing is carried out year-round despite the treacherous conditions. Paths and trails leading into the village are simple and rugged, reflecting the settlement’s modest yet practical nature.

History

Ebonbreak Haven was founded around 3736 during the wars of Rarzo Kon. Originally built as a stronghold to defend against orc incursions, the keep played a key role in the region's early military efforts. After the wars ended, the military presence dwindled, and the settlement gradually transformed into a haven for those seeking healing and safety. In 4014, the village served as a stronghold during the Farms of Desertion Reclamation attempt, but the priests’ efforts to purify the temple within the keep failed, leaving the structure still cursed. The true origins of the curse remain a mystery, steeped in whispers of past sins and forgotten histories. Local legends also speak of the Last Defender, a heroic figure who is said to have sacrificed themselves during the wars of Rarzo Kon to protect the keep. Their story is still told by the villagers, who view them as a symbol of sacrifice and resilience.

Geography

Ebonbreak Haven is perched on the frozen northern coast of the Winter Continent, surrounded by rugged cliffs and icy waters. A direct path leads from the village to the World Tree Icladreaf, making Ebonbreak an occasional waypoint for those seeking the spiritual heart of the continent. The climate is harsh and unyielding, with long winters and only a brief period of spring and summer when the land can be cultivated. This fleeting warmth is vital for growing and storing food to endure the icy grip of the rest of the year.
