Qroxidon

Qroxidon were a humanoid race that most closely resembled human-crocodile hybrids on Goliath. They were carnivorous humanoids, known for their aggressive, antisocial culture and warbased lifegoals.

Description

Qroxidon were huge, with their average size being between 18'4"—27'6" (5,6—8,4 m). Together with their massive size, they had an equally astonishing weight ranging between 3300—6600 lb (1500—3000 kg), which they often used to trample many of their enemies. Qroxidon were easy to spot due to their size, but depending on the environment, it could be next to impossible to detect one. The scales of a qroxidon ranged between many colors, though most commonly they had swampy-green or coal-black scales. Rare cases mention pinkish-red, crimson-red and white scales, and often seem to have been the only sign of leaders among the race, though it is uncertain.

Qroxidon have no sign of female members within their race, leading to the acceptance of them being genderless beings. However, that prompted a new set of questions in regards to their reproduction. At first, it was believed they reproduced asexually, however countless research has proven that to be futile. However, after initial conversation with a friendly qroxidon named Krogar, the outcome simply was that not even they were aware of where they came from.
"We wake, and then we are. We find others like us, and we understand. We are."
— Krogar, The Friendly
Qroxigon had very long lifespans, living on average about 1900 or so years and seemed to be born into adulthood. No such thing as children among them existed, starting out with a surprising amount of knowledge as well as understanding their own unique language upon their existence.

Sub-Races

  • Qroxi'Ka: These qroxidon were larger and heavier than most others. Due to their bond to their weapons they inevitably fused it to their body, thus becoming one, not only with the weapon, but its element. Additionally, these are the only qroxidon that were capable of casting magic without the use of their weapon.
  •
  • Qroxodei: The most rare of qroxidon, the qroxodei was a mighty behemoth enfused with the most primal of elements. When they were upon the scene of their kin, they were treated alike gods. They reached sizes unlike any other qroxidon, capable of threatening the wall of Deadsbane with their physical strength alone.

Personality

"A qroxidon might never know the concept of peace, but they understand the idea of a truce." — Melissa Rot

Qroxidon were infamous for their relentless bloodthirst, as if waging war upon anything that wasn't either enslaved or put to extinction, was an instinct upon opening their eyes the first time. They had an intense joy for hunting, where the weakest animal was a quick bite and a high ranking paladin and their batallion a small challenge.

Many other races found that qroxidon were impossible to reason with, however it was found out that they were more than willing to listen to reason, although at the promise that somehow it would end in battle regardless. This, however, has been abused to have the species fight wars for several races against others. The problem that many faced was that if there was nothing left to fight, they brought it back to the first party tenfold, for not keeping their end of the bargain. With this, it has been noted that the memory of a qroxidon was outstanding, as they could remember everything about their prey, down to their scent, for their whole lifetime.

Qroxidon were an extremely antisocial species when it came to their own kind, as it seemed they most often either attempted to kill each other, or mark borders to not have their hunts interrupted. Instead, they were quite social with other sapient races, such as gnolls and kobolds, who they united under the promise of glory they could never imagine. It is unclear still how they manage to persuade them exactly, however the proof lies with the many numbers that follow them, donning their colors and banners.

Qroxidon had proven to not be outright evil, as it had been observed on multiple occassions that they treated their warbands quite well. Qroxidon could last multiple days without rest, however would never attempt to exhaust their own followers. They would set up camp, letting their followers build to their own needs and marked territory for patrols and warningsigns for outsiders.
Despite the social behavior and otherwise kindness to their warband, the chain of command was never to be questioned. The qroxidon would immediately dispatch of any that would question its position, and then take down the potential supporters to drive home the point. Not many things would cause a qroxidon to rage, but this is one example of what drove them to their boiling point.

Combat

Qroxidon carried all means of weapons, however all had a unique pattern in common. Their birthweapon, the weapon they woke up with, always different, always magical. A club with the power of calling upon earthquakes, a bow that shot teleporting homing arrows, a sword that could conjure a large wave of water. The options were endless. Every single new qroxidon meant a new weapon. Not taking this matter seriously could prove someone's immediate end.

Society

Homelands

It was initially believed that the qroxidon came from the sea, being one of the few underwater races on Goliath. They were capable of breathing underwater, which was the first giveaway initially, however their weapons often carried marks of many underwater gods that were found on the planet. The most common god they all seem to carry the mark of was Akimathrogath. Despite this, qroxidon are very adaptable to all environments as they have been encountered in both the coldest and warmest biomes.

Culture

In spite of the antisocial behavior among each other, qroxidon had social events in which they met. Once a year, at a random date, all qroxidon met at the foot of The Throne of Brass. It was uncertain whether this was a political event, or simply for them to recognize new faces. They are not many, after all, where the highest number of living qroxidon at one give time was 38. So, they often seemed to have high regard of how many of them were left, or if new ones had appeared. Furthermore, these events always seem to involve drawing borders for hunting grounds, where the inexperienced were given smaller areas to cover.

Qroxidon also had high values in terms of their age. The older they were, the more battles they had fought. The most experienced qroxidon was seemingly the most respected. Considering they discussed hunting borders at a yearly basis, age made a large impact on their culture. It is also very clear who the oldest are, as they typically led the word.

Only during these social events were the qroxidon not hostile towards each other, which further emphasised how important their borders meant to them. However, there were circumstances in which multiple qroxidon were found hunting in groups, though the reason as to why were unknown.

Religion

Despite the gods that were resembled on the weaponry of the qroxidon, it was made clear that they did not actively follow these gods. Qroxidon saw their weapons as an extension of themselves, and the brand onto their weapon meant that it was a gift from the entity. They often called upon the powers of those gods, and often got quite positive responses. Their bond to these gods of the sea seemed to stem from somewhere else than ordinary religious means.
The true god that the qroxidon follow is something far older than any related to their weapons. A thing from the deepest parts of the universe, "Y'Shurithmak", meaning "it from the black body". Not much information has ever been found on this entity, but the only strict certainty about it is how alien it is. Nothing alike it has ever been described anywhere on the planet.
"No fear? We fight only knowing fear. Only knowing that if we do not fight, we face it."— A qroxidon expressing their reason to fight

Despite qroxidon having a close connection with the elements, they have an intense hate towards the elemental gods. Whenever an elemental god had shown their pressence within the premises of qroxidon hunting grounds, the borders they have made would immediately be breached by others of their kin. Apparently their hate for these gods was the only thing that can outright unite them without a words notice.

History

By 3214 GA, the infamous twin qroxidon had been defeated by an army of dwarves, using giant forked titanium metal to act as lightning rods to guard them from the massive thunderbolts the twins could use. Despite losing more than half of their ten thousand, they celebrated for weeks for ridding themselves of this enemy.

By 5542 GA, a qroxodei named Halikrom singlehandedly destroyed the former wind god Wusash, and destroyed his throne. Out from the scraps it made armor to cover its left arm, making it the first qroxodei to be fully armored during its lifetime. Shortly after, a group of heroes managed to destroy the beast, abusing its weakened state after its fight with the wind god.

By 5563 GA, a qroxidon named Krogar made contact with human military in noth Arnathia, in hopes of uniting against a powerful fire elemental. Being turned down, it left, leaving behind nothing but a warning for what was to come. Only two weeks later, was their home set aflame by that very elemental. Shortly after, Krogar defeated the fire elemental with the assistance of three dwarves.

By 6844 GA, all qroxidon were deemed extinct, the final one falling in battle against a group of heroes in south Arnathia.

By 56 AC, a qroxidon was sighted on the Barren Isles. It, together with its warband of several, united gnoll tribes, nearly wiped the isles of all life. However, it disappeared out of the sudden, leaving the claimed land to its warband who still don their banner to this day.

Notable Qroxidon

  • Krogar, the Friendly was a qroxigon who was known for his less aggressive approaches to problems, and relatively often made contact with the reigning lords of Arnathia. He was the first qroxigon to ever be allowed to walk within a city on friendly terms.
  • Halikrom was a qroxidon that became the first fully armored qroxodei to exist. If he wasn't weakened after he defeated the wind god Wusash, then the arnathians would've met their ruin.
  • Akillo, the Pink, was a qroxigon that managed to take down an elemental dragon, and became the most powerful qroxigon to ever have lived, wearing near indestructible armor created from that kill. They were the first to unite several qroxigon under a single banner.
