Sumrak

Head Guard

Sumrak is Nyra's best friend and knight. He is the head guard of the Temple of Sol. He is in Hyrule because he being manipulated by Shinzo/Magnus who is threatening to kill Nyra.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sumrak was born in the Twili Realm in the temple of Sol. He trained as a knight under the guidance of his parents and showed incredible skill. Hungry for more power, he tried to summon his own doppelganger, but was caught in the forbidden act. Regardless, he swiftly became the head guard of the Temple.   He and Nyra grew up together. Sumrak has long loved her, but has never confessed such love as she has always seemed enraptured with her duties and not at all interested in romance.   When Magnus corrupted Sol, he put the entire twilight realm into darkness. The twili became terribly sick, and began to transform into horrible monsters. Nyra began to show signs of transformation, and passed out from the strain. In desperation, Sumrak tried to save Nyra by going to Sol's chambers, a place that is forbidden to be entered except by the High Priestess on the first of the new year, to seek advice from her. However, he did not find Sol. Instead, he found a corrupted spirit and Magnus, who said:   “Go find the Spirit Weapons I created and grab their power; it is in the form of a pearl I placed into their weapon. If they refuse to join with you, use this spell that I am about to teach you, and I will personally corrupt their spirit. Your mask will act as a conduit between us so I need not struggle to contact you. If you don’t have it, I will kill Nyra, slowly and painfully. Take Nyra, and leave this realm. As long as you do not turn from the path I’ve set for you, she and you will be safe.”   Once in Hyrule, Nyra immediately was healed. Her transformations reverted and she was fine, but Magnus made it clear that if Sumrak were ever separated from the mask or if he deliberately disobeyed, Nyra would begin transforming again. Additionally, Sumrak was told to summon Shadow Sumrak in private, defeat him in battle, and send him to Termina.   Some of the transformed twili chased Nyra and Sumrak to the mirror. They tried to follow out, so Nyra and Sumrak destroyed the mirror.

Education

Sumrak grew up training to be a knight. He showed incredible skill and a particular aptitude for dark magic and doppelganger summoning. He is a fine smith. However, his knowledge of the arcane is limited.

Employment

He works as the head guard for the temple of Sol. His main duty is sworn protection over the high priestess. However, he is also responsible for training new knights and summoning their doppelgangers for them to fight.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Becoming the head guard is his greatest accomplishment.

Failures & Embarrassments

Early in his time as head guard, some caught him trying to summon his own doppelganger, a taboo act.

Mental Trauma

His parents were imprisoned for life for entering Sol's chambers. His older sister (who was with child) went missing shortly afterward. The people also questioned Sumrak's integrity, especially since he had been caught trying to summon his own doppelganger, and were considering removing him from his position as head knight and Nyra's guard -- something he simply could not accept as it separated him from Nyra. This created great pressure for Sumrak.

Intellectual Characteristics

He knows much about smithing, leading, and fighting. His arcane knowledge is only what he has gleaned in his conversations with Nyra.

Morality & Philosophy

There are stories told of the Hero in Twili Realm. Sumrak thinks Heroes are more like a dog, blindly doing whatever task their master tells them to in the name of destiny. He tells people instead to be like a warrior with an unwavering identity and the strength to do what they believe is right.

Taboos

Sumrak has attempted to summon his own doppelganger, which is a taboo as it creates an autonomous being, equipped with speech, memory, emotion, and free will.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Sumrak loves Nyra. She is his only bright light. She was the only one who saw him in his most difficult time: the time where his immediate family was imprisoned and his sister (who was with child) went missing. She was one of the first to speak up for Sumrak after the shame of being caught trying to summon his own doppelganger.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Sumrak is strong, but he is not charismatic.

Likes & Dislikes

Sumrak loves Nyra, likes being challenged, dislikes being told what to do, hates the idea of destiny.

Virtues & Personality perks

Sumrak enjoys protecting others, but it may just be out of a desire to prove his strength than anything else.

Vices & Personality flaws

Sumrak will do anything for Nyra's sake. There is no order that he won't carry out for her safety.

Personality Quirks

Sumrak will always look for shade to be in.

Social

Family Ties

His father and mother were knights for the temple of Sol before imprisonment. His sister was a priestess who was with child before going missing. His brother in law left the temple after his sister disappeared.

Religious Views

He believes in Sol's light, but he is not particularly loyal to Sol. He is more loyal to the clergy than to the light spirit.

Social Aptitude

He is not much of a talker, but he can speak eloquently when he feels it is necessary. He is not the best liar, but does lie on occasion.

Mannerisms

He is short and to the point in almost all his speech. Some might find him blunt or rude. His motivational speeches tend to be simple and realistic but somehow encouraging.
