Meridea

Where the Meridea river empties into the sea sits the large port city of Meridea, one of the major points of entry for goods flowing into Galladia. Perched upon a broad low-slung hill, tall stone walls surround a large city, where merchants from across Gloratium gather to sell their wares and load goods for their return trips. Ships arrive at long wharfs extending into the deep blue waters of the Sea of Meridea. Nearby fisherman gather mussels and other shellfish for sale at local fish markets, while barges loaded with grain from the Tercian Plains pull into docks along the Meridea river. Stone towers guard the approach to the harbor, protecting the vital flow of goods. Once on land, one would find wide streets close to the waters edge bustling with carts. Moving closer to the city, warehouses give way to dense neighborhoods occupied by sailors, laborers, traders and dockworkers. Higher up on the south slope of the Meridea River, sit the homes of merchants, eager to do business with the Bank of Galladia, which is housed in an ornate stone building studded with crisp-white marble accents. The imposing building watches out of the harbor, allowing local bankers and traders to watch their profits sail into port, or not. Further up the hill, behind the old walls, are the houses of nobles, availing themselves of the mild Meridea climate or strolling cobbled market streets. Sitting at the precipice of the hill is the grand Temple of Marea, a stone cathedral, with buttress built to resemble waves crashing upon the building. Standing atop the dome of the Temple is a statue of Marea surrounded by here three Delphs (Dolphin-like avatars).
