Sunset Foxes

Sunset Foxes are beautiful creatures that are considered omens of luck and prosperity. They are often the subject of art and literature in much of the world due to their beauty and the fact they are often found in areas blessed by Foxglove, Goddess of Flowers .

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sunset foxes are small canines that are typically 45 inches long and about 12 inches tall. Their most defining and unique feature is a horn that protrudes from their heads. These horns are incredibly tough and actually shed every few years to grow back larger much like the antlers of a deer.   Quick and agile little hunters these foxes are known for having very powerful legs that allow them to jump higher and run faster than most other creatures. Their thick fur is soft and water resistent and very highly sought after from reputabale sources as hunting them is taboo do to the near religious standing of these animals.

Genetics and Reproduction

Sunset foxes tend to carry their offspring for an average of 56 days before giving birth to litters of up to 5 kits. These kits then spend the next 2 years with their mother.

Ecology and Habitats

They are found scattered across the Aubren though it is believed they are originally from the northern areas of the continent. They tend to favor densly forested areas or areas with plenty of places to burrow and hide.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are omnivorus by nature living off of small prey like rodents, snakes, and bugs as well as berries and wild veggies.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

This horn is considered to be an amazingly powerful magic reagent as well as a medicinal element. Despite this hunting them is frowned upon so usually this is only collected from those that have passed peacfully. In addition in some circles they are used as luxury pets for the rich as they are supposed to bring luck and good fortune, though this is technically illegal in most areas of Aubren.

Conservation Status
While not endangered the Sunset Fox is considered a near sacred animal and in some areas associated with both the goddess Foxglove as well as the god Millios. As such hunting them is illegal in most of the countries of Aubren and is also a strict taboo for many religious sects.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Sunset Foxes are renowned for their brightly colored fur that resembles the sunsets they are named for. Their coloration is a gradient of blues, purples, pinks, and reds and seems to shift with the light and almost sparkle.
