Earendil, God of the Seas Character in Glenerene | World Anvil

Earendil, God of the Seas

God of the Seas Earendil

Earendil is called the god of the sea though he domain encompasses all waters of the world, he is thought to be both a generous and master as he gives life to the world through tame and safe waters as well as through the fish and creatures below the waves. However he can be harsh as the storms on the sea and currents that would pull one below and not release them. He isn't the most active of gods personally as there are not many stories of his personal interference or interaction with the mortal realm but that does not make him any less respected or revered as any in the The Nature Pantheon

Divine Domains

"Earendil is both kind and cruel. His will is a fickle thing, just as he gives the waters of life he can use them to take lives if angered. All things change with intent. Never forget that." ~ Tidewalker Keridan Lavea
Water, the seas, rivers, oceans, lakes, ponds, and rain. All forms of water are his domain. He is also considered the god of philosophy and great thinking. His followers focusing on discovery and understanding of the heart and mind of all the peoples of Glenerene. While he is not a very active god those actions attributed to him usually have profound consequense and far reaching effects that have led to many debates of reason.

Artifacts

A silver harpoon that is said to have belonged to the god himself and that supposedly has the power to call the tides and control the beasts of the sea.

Holy Books & Codes

Followers of Earendil dedicate themselves to the ever changing nature of water as well as the minds and hearts of the peoples of the world. They live by the creed of intention being the foremost basis of both good and evil. That the reasons why are more important than the actions themselves and should be the determining factors in judegment. They do not base their beliefs off of action or inaction but rather the intellectual question of why.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The symbols associated with him are those of a fish and a silver harpoon.
Silver harpoons symbolize the fierce nature of the waves and the harshness of
the sea as well symbolizes all seafarers who call the water home.
The symbol of the fish represents the bountiful fishing and harvests that come from the waters.

Tenets of Faith

The tenents by which the followers of Earendil live are as follows:
  • Always question why you do the things you do, and do them with pure intentions

  • Do not judge the actions of those you do not know, as you do not know why they have done what they have.

  • Guide and teach others to better understand themselves and to be ever mindful of their actions and reasons.

  • Never stagnate, continue to flow and change like the waters of the world

Trials of Faith

Earendil demands that those who would be Tidewalkers of his faith pass three simple trials of faith. These trials are the following:
  • Demonstrate mastery and understanding of one's own heart and mind. This is simple or complex a task as needed for the individual. Ranging from accepting one's self entirely to forgiving one who wronged you through understanding of why and/or to begin healing for yourself.

  • Guide another to understanding of themselves. This task also depends on the person, by either helping them reach peace with something they have done or guiding them to the discovery of a life goal through understanding what drives them in life.

  • Acceptance of the ever changing nature of the world through metamorphosis of the self. This can be achieved simply by understanding and accepting that who you were before and who you are now are different people and reflecting on the path chosen, why, and what changes have occurred and the difference in reasoning between the two.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Not much is known of what motivates Earendil, though it is assumed that the wellbeing of the creatures that exsist in his domain are his priority.
