Desidi (Deh-see-dee)

There are 100 Palace Eunuchs at all times. Eunuchs are the highest ranked servants in the Palace and as such will usually be tasked to supervise work being done in the Palace.   The Desidi are always Kirians below the status of nobility. This is to keep the noble families from trying to influence the inner workings of the Palace. Peasants will often be happy with the better life they living within the Palace and tend to be more loyal.   The Desidi system allows there to be some kind of harmony of power. Since a Regnant can be replaced, it creates an incentive to do a good job. The Regnant can however punish the Desidi for being too greedy or making moves to bolster their own interests.   This system has prevailed because of Kirian's increasing wealth. Mostly people are treated well and are paid fairly which discourages any bribery or complaints A.K.A. corruption.

Structure

The Desidi have 2 ranks: The Council and the Commons.   The Council: The Council consists of 30 members handpicked by the Regnant. The Council is the highest rank a eunuch can get and is often handed to the most loyal and diligent of eunuchs. These are the eunuchs that are concerned with choosing new rulers.   There are three things that they look out for:
  1. The behaviors and decisions of the Regnant
  2. The behaviors and capabilities of the children
  3. The thoughts of those residing in the Palace
All of this is so they can know if it is necessary to depose a ruler and if so which new ruler to choose. Do to their job they come quite close to the royal family and have roles related to them.   The Commons: The Commons do light chores around the Palace. They also supervise other workers for important banquets, ceremonies etc. held in Palace grounds.  Eunuchs are the only men allowed to be alone with the women of the Palace, so if there are consorts The Commons will be in charge of all but the highest ranked.   This creates an information system where the eunuchs know most things happening in the Palace at any one time. The Council keeps tabs on the royal family meanwhile The Commons gather general information about everybody else. The Council use this information to do their job, but will also pass on any important or alarming news to the Regnant in order to keep the balance of power.   There is never any 1 eunuch in charge to keep the entire organization to be tainted by greed. All decisions and actions are executed as a group and any punishment that comes from those actions will also be taken by the whole group.

History

Before the Desidi were officially named and appointed into the Palace, they were just regular eunuchs. The Palace used to have hundreds of them for tasks such as household chores and caring for consorts if the Regnant at the time had any. They mainly did light work and would walk around with the royal women, keeping them company and attending to any of their needs. A steward of sorts.   Because eunuchs left their families to get into the palace and could not have any relations or children with the women of the Palace they were believed to be trustworthy servants. However corruption ran rampant. Officials would often bribe eunuchs for private information and since they had no way of ranking up in life and were basically disposable, many of them took the deals they were given.   Soon many eunuchs started becoming rich and influential. They no longer sold information, but would sometimes put in a good word to their mistresses who in turn would convince their sons, husbands, and fathers to take action not knowing that it was in another's interest.   This created such chaos in the Palace that at one point a Blue Prince was almost appointed Regnant King. He was quite useless as a ruler and far too young, but several eunuchs were working hard to have him appointed so that they could backseat rule.   The citizens were furious about this and so were some of the eunuchs. The right choice for the throne was obviously the eldest Moon Princess. She was sharp, witty, with a strong character. She had been carrying the country since the death of her parents while also taking care of her many siblings. She was the pride of the country and basically already the ruler.   A group of eunuchs were so furious that they made a plan. With the help of the Moon Princess they staged a coup of the palace. The corrupt eunuch and officials were killed and the rest of the eunuchs were banished. The 100 rebel eunuchs that survived were officially appointed by the Moon Princess turned Queen as official eunuchs named Desidi for the decision that they were appointed to make. From that day forward the Desidi would the ones would would select new rulers. They were to observe the children carefully since birth and select the most suitable when time came. They even have the power to call an emergency and dethrone a Regnant for a more suitable candidate if necessary.   Since then the group is always kept at 100 and over time a deciding faction was created to make decision making easier and faster. And so it has been for decades.

Court, Royal

Neutral Cohabitation

Although the 2 organizations are not similar, they have similar structures. Most of their members are Palace workers while only a bare few have special duties. Because of this they always pass by each other while working which creates a recognition and slight affection toward each other. Or more like empathetic dissatisfaction and sometimes boredom.
