Solar City

Solar city is the largest city on the continent of Lorthal. It contains eleven major temples and a variety of smaller temples. It's main commerce comes from the large river that runs through the city and into the bay. The noble's section is walled off from the rest of the city and reqiures specific permission to enter. The guards are strict but effective and do not take accusations likely, in part because of the strong influence the Temple of Tyr holds over the guards.

Demographics

Mostly humans and half-breeds live in the city. Occassionally, more nomadic species like orcs visit, but these encounters are rare. Elves stay away from the city, thinking it the culmination of all of humanities faults. The city does not portray an outwards racism to foreign races, but it can be difficult to delve in roots for any immigrants.

Government

The city is ran by the Duke who takes council with the five leading families on what is called The Council of Callings. There is one representative from each Calling across the five families. The Duke's vote counts for two regular votes, allowing him to break any ties. This means that at least four families must be in agreement of a decision to oppose the Duke, and therefore tend to stall out the vote whenever they do not have a total of four members. If necessary, the Duke can go through a lengthy formal process to force a vote to occur, but this is rare due to the time and effort it can take. Part of the requirements is for at least ten thousand citizens of Solar City to back his side, which is partially difficult because it is unknown if ten thousand people in Solar City can write their names.

Defences

Large stone walls encircle the entire city, and smaller walls encircle some of the wards such as the nobles' ward and the banks of the expansion to the east.

Infrastructure

The city has a variety of wards and most streets are paved in stone. Multi-story buildings are not unusual. There are only a few bridges that connect the two sides of the river, as the eastern side isn't viewed as all that necessary. The eastern side is the most recent expansion of the city walls. The noble's ward was the original root of Solar City, which explains it's proximity to the docks and relative safety from flood zones, as it lies ontop of a cliff that watches over the harbor.

The road that leads to the barracks off of Guards Way is the largest road in the entirety of Solar City.

Guilds and Factions

The major temples that have been noted so far are the Temples of Malar, Talos, Tyr, Shar, and Talona.
