Goliaths

Goliaths are a mountain people, being the distant descendants of giants.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Goliaths live, eat, breathe, and die in their mountain tribes. The more inaccessible the mountain, the more valuable it is to a Goliath tribe. Strength of all sorts is needed in the thin air and frigid mountain tops where very few things other than Goliaths can survive, let alone thrive as they do.

Behaviour

Goliaths respect strength and tests of endurance above all else. They have many rituals that lower-landed folk could confuse for sporting events, but the tribe takes as their sacred duty to test themselves.  A Goliath does not just hold to physical strength as an ideal though, as mental and emotional strength are also prized. A Goliath will just as willingly brag of the hbarelyeavy rock he lifts as well as his computational skills and his ability to maintain friendships.  Goliaths believe that one is never done being tested. It isn't the result that matters so much as the effort that is put into it. After all, a creature that can easily lift a boulder is not tested by lifting a large stone, but a child that can only lift small stones with great effort and just barely pushes over a large rock is considered the stronger of the two.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Goliaths prize strength over all, but usually hold the person in the tribe best able to lead as the chief. While not always the strongest, this does not mean that any small weakling can lead; no, rather, the chief is usually the one that exemplifies the best of all forms of strength; physical, mental, survivability, emotional, and spiritual.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Goliaths are typically found in mountainous regions of the world, high above the petty squabbles of the smaller races.  In Ghemjana, they can be found in the dizzying heights of the Kennekara Mountains and the World's Teeth in Hestoria.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Goliaths are most distinguished by their incredible strength and endurance while living at some of the highest elevations in the world. They possess keen eyes and an almost supernatural sureness of foot among the rocks and steep cliffs of their homes.
