Wagon Vehicle in Getninia | World Anvil

Wagon

A timeless and trusted vehicle the world over, the wagon has been constructed for long distance hauls by dozens of peoples throughout the Known World's history. Whether merchants travelling the interior of Lìrna or the Terruk-Mal, nomads moving into a new land, or armies supplying their distance troops, the wagon has enabled the relatively quick movement of goods and people across long distances, although it's efficiency often depends on well developed and maintained roads. Practically every culture that has invented the wheel has constructed both the four wheeled-wagon and the two-wheeled cart.

Propulsion

Wagons are four wheeled, two axle-based vehicles pulled by a living being from the front. They are most often pulled by a variety of hardy livestock, such as the Feloran Mule, draft horse, or camel. The choice is often dependant on the culture, environment, and cost/variety of the available animals. For instance, a camel will often be the preferred mount for a wagon for journeys requiring water conservation. In cultures that practice slavery or indentured servitude, it is not uncommon to see several people at the front of a wagon. Occasionally, more exotic mounts are used, such as a dire wolf or draft unicorn.

Weapons & Armament

Wagons generally are unarmed, however individuals with weapons such as bows, guns, and those with projectile-based spellcasting can defend a wagon themselves with enough skill.

Armor and defense

Some Dotharan and Feloran merchants will plate the wood of their wagons or reinforce them with metal.
