Horils Species in Geshkara | World Anvil

Horils

A race with no kingdom of their own. Most left their steppe home of the Dischitar long ago, driven away by the expansion of the Faltish Algarinates. They are largely ignored by the Dvekmenu, and receive little sympathy from the Faltish. They keep mostly to themselves and are content in the disregard received from the Dvekmenu. They are seen as a sullen and melancholy race, penitent and nostalgic. They hold to the continental religion, but hold a very different view of it to the other races. They were promised great prosperity by Jellenus, which was delivered, for a time. They held great, prosperous kingdoms, long fallen and disgraced. The poem of Uzholch, their most resonant work, is an elegy not just for who he was, but for their nations.   They are a highly traditional race, living in communes of seldom more than a few dozen, led by wise men who offer counsel to those in need. They lead difficult lives, partly out of circumstance, partly out of penance for what they view as their past hubris.   There are Horils who live outside these communes, and they often lead lives as guards, bouncers, or other professions where their strength and intimidating stature is useful. It is unfortunate that their more thoughtful aspects are seldom recognised.   They are towering, often breaching seven feet; they have burly or muscular builds. They have large features and reddish skin. They do not grow hair above their necks, and may choose to shave their body hair for religious purposes. They will very often sport tattoos across their limbs and/or face. Their bodies are sometimes wretched from a lifetime of difficult labour.
