Naga
Humanoid Race of Genivan
Introduction:
Naga can stay under water as they are an aquatic race but cannot go more than a 1,000 feet deep and so they cannot reach any towns of the land of Vastor except the three shallow ones, Haling Cove, Lumari Crags and Misty Cavern. They can live on land but prefer water. They move slowly on land but have excellent stamina, they are very fast swimmers, faster than Gideans but not faster than the sea creatures Gideans ride as they are about even in speed and one reason why Gideans use of their sea creature mounts are so imperative as a defense against the Naga.
They are moderately strong but are superior warriors, they use their weapons with excellent agility and speed (not as fast as Lycans and a bit slower than Eons). Naga have large families, 4-6 offspring and they have a fairly high mortality rates due to their incessant need to battle. They range out into the various seas and bays looking to fight; their love of battle and lust for vengeance keeps their numbers in check but they are still numerous.
They eat mostly plants in the seas or plants on land, they will rarely consume meat, so 98% of the time it is fish when they do eat meat but if they are starving and desperate on land they will eat ‘land meat’ as they call it, which they detest.
Language
Naga have polyphonic voices which means two-tone, they have a very high pitched harmonic overtone undulation they use to call out to each other above land and a very low (almost out of the hearing range of Saharians) that is subharmonic. Rarely do Naga use subharmonics above land because the frequency of the subharmonic is dramatically hampered on land (unique to Genivan) and only moderately hampered under water.
Weapons & Armor
Naga cannot forge metal (no one can except Taloreans, unique to Genivan) so they make their weapons and armor from coral. They carve small plates and interlock them forming ‘scales’ of armor that are very flexible but hard to penetrate. They interlock these scales with a plant (grows in water) that when they weave it into a rope using (something) that helps toughen it and keep it flexible to tie their armor together. Their weapons are made in a similar fashion. Their weapons tend be long like spears and they use them very effectively on land against their ‘taller’ enemies.Fighting Technique
Naga can rear back (sorta like a horse) and use the muscles in their lower snake like torso where human shins and feet would be, which is mainly used for strength in swimming and moving on land, to launch themselves upward to stab or slice enemies that are taller. It is used less frequently because it takes a lot of endurance and can wear the Naga out so they use it when the opportunity is right to make a strong, hard strike.Rank
They love pearls, Naga decorate themselves with pearls and is a sign of rank (as best Saharians can tell), if a Naga uses black pearls (the hardest to find) they are leaders or elite fighters who have survived many battles. They have piercings the entire length of their ears and hang shells along with other sea items and pearls as earrings.
Social & Sexual Dimorphism
Naga are rarely seen alone, they live in groups and fight in groups. They are a matriarchal society and sexual dimorphism is greatest with them, the females are much larger than males and the most feared by Saharians. Naga have longer body lengths then their ‘height’ on land, on land they are short as Gideans, about 5 ft tall but with their tail lengths (full body length) they are 7-8 ft (female) and 6 ½ - 7 ft (males) long.
Anatomy
They have diamond shaped irises and do not have eye brows or eyelashes. Their face is flat with a very shallow nose with three sets of tiny gills on either side and a jutting narrow chin. Their mouth is small and ears large that taper off into narrow points that arch backwards from their head. Large heads and thick necks with two arms that are moderately thick with a thick barrel chested torso that matches their shoulder width. Their back sides are covered in scales that harden on land and become more soft underwater (because hard scales do not allow them to swim quickly but hard scales allow them to have armor on dry land). Their front sides are softer scales and the most vulnerable parts of their bodies, these softer scales end about where a humans knees would be so they can still slither on land with their changing scales (the frontal scales do not change).
