Vampire Push Tradition / Ritual in Genetic | World Anvil

Vampire Push

This is used to push back multiple mythological creatures, but it primarily is for pushing away vampires. The "Vampire Push", as the nursery rhyme became known as, was eventually spread to other settlements, but it is currently unknown how closely they stuck to the original ritual.    The nursery rhyme does have multiple iterations at this point, but the original rhyme is the most effective at pushing the creatures that could be classified as mythological parasites away.

History

This tradition started when the vampire covens in the area began to grow to a unmanageable size. In order to protect the people of Refuge, several elders who had dealt with vampires before arriving to Genetic came up with this ritual. While at first the ritual was hard to do, because people had a hard time remembering the steps and the ingredients, once the elders turned the ritual into a type of nursery rhyme, the ritual caught on.   Overtime, as with many songs, it spread over the human settlements and through some of the space-faring traders that would visit Genetic. While some of them merely thought of it as a way to pass the time, others took to the song and practiced the steps laid out by the lyrics.

Execution

The components are generally mixed into a large vat and any leftovers are eaten by the village populace.

Components and tools

The necessary ingredients are as follows: bulbs of fresh garlic, Citronella candles, small pitchers of peppermint oil, lavender oil, and lemon grass juice, leaves of basil and sliced tomato, and Cayenne pepper.   For the tools, items that are needed are those required to prepare the ingredients for their final state.

Participants

Elders of the village, especially those who are unappealing to vampires and other mythological parasites, are tasked with spreading the ingredients on the houses and around the perimeter of the village.

Observance

Normally the ritual is performed 2 days after it rains, mainly to apply a fresh coat of the protective substances.
